Scythe's European Branch to Cease Operations, After-sales Support Rerouted Through Local Distributors & Retailers

Last Saturday, Scythe Group announced the closure of its European branch. This followed mid-April reports of unusually low stock numbers in Germany—at the time, ComputerBase.de and its community highlighted the complete absence of the manufacturer's flagship Mugen 6 CPU air cooler at regional retail outlets. The site published an investigative article on April 22; presenting an important Consumer Protection Forum filing. Apparently "economic difficulties" have warranted the initiation of "preliminary insolvency proceedings"—as a result, Scythe EU GmbH faced an uncertain future. Looking back in TechPowerUp's news archive, the last official introduction of brand-new products—Mugen 6 standard and Black Edition coolers—happened around early February. Also within the same month, TPU's crazyeyesreaper reviewed the brand's "highly-recommended" Fuma 3 model. Despite releasing consistently high-grade and top-performing products; Scythe has faced aggressive competition across Europe—Chinese brands have flooded regional markers with cheaper alternatives. In particular, Thermalright has gained plenty of attention and uptake—due to a rapid cadence and wide variety of highly-acclaimed new releases.

Scythe's April 26 official notice stated: "To All Valued Clients, we deeply regret to inform you that SCYTHE EU will be ceasing operations. Moving forward, SCYTHE-branded products and customer support will remain available through our European distributors and online e-commerce platforms. During the transition period with our distributors/e-commerce channels, there may be some unfinished matters, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. SCYTHE will continue to uphold the principles of responsibility and integrity, ensuring consumer rights are protected in accordance with the law. We sincerely thank you for your support and loyalty to the SCYTHE brand over the years."

Cooler Master Unveils V-Series and V-Lite Series CPU Air Coolers Resembling Engine Blocks

Cooler Master at the 2025 International CES showed off the new V-Series and V-Lite Series air CPU coolers that are designed to visually resemble engine blocks of performance cars and trucks. These are mainly just fancy top-plates designed to look either like the block hood, or cylinder heads, complete with make-believe air and exhaust manifolds. A common essential design among all cooler models is that they're all single fin-stack tower-type coolers with two fans in push-pull ventilation configuration. The differentiators are the size of the fin-stack, size of the fans, and number of heat pipes.

The series is led by the V10 3DHP, which features a single wide fin-stack that pulls heat from the CPU using no less than ten 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes. There's supposed to be a V8 3DHP that's slightly slimmer, and with eight heat pipes, but we couldn't find it. We instead spotted the V6 3DHP, which is further slim, with six heat pipes, and the smallest cooler of the lot, the V4 3DHP, with four 8 mm-thick heat pipes. Then there's the V-Lite Series. The top plates of these coolers resemble full-hood engine covers in production cars, there's no make-believe manifolds. The V-Lite V6 comes with six heat pipes, and the V4 with four. Both these lack any fancy lighting on the fans, but the top plates have a touch of RGB.

Valkyrie CPU Coolers at Computex 2024: Color Screens Make it to Air Coolers

Valkyrie brought an exhaustive lineup of CPU coolers to the 2024 Computex. This is also the only manufacturer we've come across that put a color display on top of a tower-type CPU cooler, a feature that've we've seen catch on with nearly every AIO liquid CPU cooler manufacturer. There are air coolers with displays on top, but those are LED segment displays putting out basic information such as temperature readings from ACPI. The company displayed an aluminium fin-stack cooler with a large top-plate that has a color display embedded in it, under its Loki brand. The top-plate is wider than the heatsink, but matches the width of the cooler when you install a 120 mm fan. So for those squeamish about liquid cooling, here's a neat alternative.

The Valkyrie Loki series also includes air coolers without this display, replaced by anime art and ARGB LED diffusers. We've seen single fin-stack coolers with dual-fan ventilation (push-pull), and dual fin-stack coolers under the Loki, Merlin, and Mist brands. Switching gears to the liquid cooling lineup, and we see the all-black Valkyrie Dracula, characterized by high static-pressure fluid dynamic bearing fans, and a concealing side mounts for the fans that give the three individual fans the appearance of a compound fan. The model shown at Computex featured a 360 mm x 120 mm radiator.

Lamptron ST060 Dual-Tower Air Cooler Sports Full HD 6-inch Screen

CaseKing.de has started to sell a gigantic Lamptron ST060 dual-tower CPU air cooler for €299.90 (~$325) with VAT added. Many PC hardware news sites have predicted that this sizable—153 × 152 × 120 mm (W x H x D)—cooling solution is worthy of taking on similarly proportioned competition. CaseKing's listing includes some hype material: "(the ST060) offers extremely high cooling performance thanks to its six heat pipes and two PWM RGB fans. With a 260 W TDP, the cooler is also very quiet and has immense cooling reserves for overclocked CPUs and, despite its size, can be installed even with the mainboard installed." The integrated 6-inch 1920x1080 screen is the ST060's other selling point—DeepCool's (recently TPU reviewed) AK620 dual-tower cooler sports a large-ish top-mounted mini monitor, although its functionality is quite limited. Lamptron states that their new model is prepped for full AIDA64 integration; a license for this software suite is bundled in.

The integrated screen requires connection to USB Type-A and HDMI ports—perhaps a major annoyance—fortunately mini USB to USB and HDMI cables are included in the box. Additionally, software and digital instructions are uploaded onto a bundled USB-A flash drive. The base Lamptron ST060 model is joined by ARGB equipped alternatives—CaseKing has a product page for a black fan version (LAMP-ST060AB, also priced at €299.90), but it is not available to purchase yet. Tom's Hardware believes that a white fan model (LAMP-ST060AW) is also incoming—they documented some basic aesthetic differences: "In addition to the fans being different, the ARGB versions have a silver heatsink as opposed to the black heatsink on the regular version." Lamptron's ST060 air cooler appears to be an Intel socket-centric product, with support for LGA1366, LGA1200, LGA115x, LGA1700, and LGA2011. Team Red enthusiasts will be disappointed about compatibility being limited to AM4. Overclocking.com expressed surprise regarding Lamptron's re-emergence with new products—many assumed that the company was in a dormant state for a long time.
