Noctua's Next-Gen NF-A14 Fans Use Liquid Crystal Polymer Impellers

Noctua is preparing a major design update for its NF-A series fans. The company is preparing its next-generation fans with the new Sterrox liquid-crystal polymer material. LCP provides superior structural stability for the blades at high RPM, allowing them to maintain their correct profile, and maximizing their airflow and noise characteristics; in comparison to impellers made from conventional thermoplastics such as LDPE, PBT, PVC, ABS, etc. LCPs also feature very high strength-to-weight ratio, which is what makes another popular kind of LCP, Kevlar, the material of choice for anti-ballistic armors.

For case fans, the impeller has such structural strength to hold its shape, that Noctua has reduced clearance between the impeller and the bore of the frame to under 1 mm, which helps guide all of the fan's airflow axially. Other design innovations to the impeller include channels that accelerate airflow toward the edges of the fan blades, and a stepped inlet structure toward the impeller hub that creates a pressure-differential, and guides the air better toward the impeller blades. The fan hub is metal reinforced, and the motor uses an SSO2 fan bearing. The frame of the fan, has integrated anti-vibration pads. Noctua plans to launch the next-gen 140 mm A-series case fan in Q1-2024.

Akasa's Gecko Turbo Cooler for SSDs Features a Blower Fan

There has been no shortage of various SSD coolers to date, but none seems to have implemented a blower fan as yet. Well, Akasa decided that it was a product that was needed in the market and was showing off its Gecko Turbo Cooler at Computex. The heatsink part of the cooler is dwarfed by the blower fan that sits on top of it, making for a rather amusing looking device. As to the noise level, we can only guess, as it wasn't plugged in, but blower fans don't tend to be the quietest fans around. That said, it's likely to bring the best airflow of any M.2 SSD cooler to date, even though it might be a tad excessive, even for PCIe 5.0 SSDs.

HYTE Thicc FT12 is a 120 mm Fan with Special Chops, Including its own Arm CPU

The HYTE Thicc FT12 is a stand-out at the company's booth at the 2023 Computex. It's probably the most feature-rich fan specs-sheet we've come across, all to justify its price of $80 for a 3-pack SKU. The 120 mm fan derives its name from its 32 mm thickness, which is a bit more than the 25 mm that's industry standard, and more than double the 15 mm slimline form-factor. The impeller has a liquid-crystal polymer coating that minimizes dust build-up over timeand improves airflow characteristics. The fan's motor has sensors that can detect airflow temperature, as well as the exact position of the impeller. The onboard electronics also has support for HYTE's Nexus Link unified interface over USB type-C (legacy adapter included). As a fan, the HYTE THICC FT12 has a speed-range between 500 to 2,000 RPM, and has zero-RPM capability. At its top speed, it pushes over 70 CFM of airflow, with over 3.3 mm H₂O static-pressure.
