8BitDo Launches Transparent Xbox Edition Retro Mechanical Keyboard and Retro R8 Gaming Mouse

8BitDo is known for making retro gaming-themed peripherals, and it's now expanded that line-up with two more products in a transparent green color way reminiscent of the original Microsoft Xbox gaming console. The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard has received a refresh in classic transparent Xbox colors, and 8BitDo has launched its first gaming mouse, the Retro R8 Mouse in the same color way. The new colorway incorporates the expected transparent green plastic enclosures for the mouse and keyboard and also features bright red, yellow, blue, and green accent colors that, following the traditional ABXY button colors. Both the new Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard ($199.99) and Retro R8 Mouse ($59.99) are available for pre-order on Amazon, although it looks like the initial batches on the mouse have sold out for now.

While 8BitDo has opted for Kailh Jellyfish X switches, likely for their transparent appearance, the hardware changes to the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard are mostly limited to the transparent green case, keycaps, and extra macro buttons. The mouse, on the other hand, bears further inspection, since it's a new product category for 8BitDo. On a surface level, the 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse looks like a typical ambidextrous gaming mouse, with a claimed eight programmable buttons, USB-C, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth LE connectivity, and up to 26,000 DPI resolution. While it's not advertised as a lightweight mouse, it's certainly not heavy for a wireless mouse, coming in at 77 g. The Retro R8 Mouse also comes with a matching charging dock, which 8BitDo says will charge the mouse to 100% in 2.5 hours and acts as a signal extender. 8BitDo claims that the mouse can achieve between 26 and 105 hours of use from its 450 mAh Li-ion battery in wireless mode, depending on the polling rate and connectivity mode.

ASUS Republic of Gamers Announces Availability of ROG Harpe Ace Extreme

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the availability of the ROG Harpe Ace Extreme, an ultralight 47-gram gaming mouse featuring an eye-catching carbon fiber shell that offers extreme maneuverability and outstanding durability. The shape of Harpe Ace Extreme was co-developed with esports professionals to ensure exceptional stability and control when flicking and tracking—especially for players accustomed to playing with a claw grip. Built-in cutting-edge technologies such as the ROG AimPoint Pro optical sensor and ROG Optical Micro Switches ensure absolute pinpoint accuracy and reliability. Additionally, the Harpe Ace Extreme is bundled with a host of premium accessories including a set of Corning Gorilla Glass mouse feet, a hard-shell carrying case, and the ROG Polling Rate Booster.

Upcoming Pulsar Peripheral Releases Shown at Gamescom

At Gamescom, Korean peripheral manufacturer Pulsar showed many upcoming releases slated for 2024 and 2025, some of which had to be flown in overnight fresh out of the factory. Aside from updates to existing mice series such as the Xlite, X2, X2H, or X2A, Pulsar also showed wholly new shapes and concepts.

Pulsar XS-1 sensor and in-house firmware
Shared between all new mouse releases from Pulsar will be improvements to the sensor and firmware. Based on PixArt's latest PAW3950 sensor, the custom XS-1 sensor will be capable of CPI adjustment in increments of 10, which would be restricted to steps of 50 on a regular PAW3950. After two years of development time, Pulsar's own in-house developed firmware is also nearing completion, and will feature multiple improvements over the third-party solution used previously. More specifically, refined double-click prevention will be included, slam-click prevention is implemented, and latency has been lowered further across the board. The firmware change will be accompanied by a new software as well, which will be exclusive to all newer models featuring the XS-1.

Hands-on with ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Mini, Harpe Ace Extreme, and More at Gamescom 2024

Among many other releases, ASUS has shown several upcoming peripheral releases at Gamescom, including both the ROG Harpe Ace Mini and the Harpe Ace Extreme, the latter of which had already been announced prior. Interestingly enough, the mouse demonstration units weren't pre-production units, but rather from mass production, hinting at an impending release. While no exact date has been revealed, both the ROG Harpe Ace Mini and the Harpe Ace Extreme indeed are expected to hit shelves within the next few weeks.

Shared between both mice are their basic specifications and internals. Much like on the ROG Keris II Ace, ASUS's latest AimPoint Pro sensor capable of 42,000 CPI sees use, along with ROG Optical main button switches. When asked for comment, ASUS has stated that on their enthusiast mouse releases, optical switches will continue to be preferred over push-fit mechanical switch sockets to save as much weight as possible. Through the ROG Polling Rate Booster, polling rates of up to 8000 Hz can be achieved in wired operation, and up to 4000 Hz in wireless operation. Since the firmware is shared across all models, performance of the ROG Harpe Ace Mini and the Harpe Ace Extreme will closely match the Keris II Ace provided the ROG Polling Rate Booster is used.

It features ROG HFX Magnetic Switches that deliver solid keystrokes. The switch actuation points can be customized from anywhere between 0.1- 4.0 mm for instantaneous response. An 8000 Hz polling rate and 0.125 ms response time make the Falchion Ace HFX up to 8X faster than competitor keyboards. Plus, a Rapid Trigger toggle can be activated for the fastest typing response and key repeat rates, without the need for additional software. The Speed Tap mode prioritizes the last input and automatically releases the previous one to eliminate any time gap for counter-strafing and ensure precise aim, especially in FPS games.

ASUS Unveils ROG Keris II Ace Wireless Gaming Mouse

The ROG Keris II Ace is an ultralight 54-gram ergonomic tri mode gaming mouse with a shape tested by pro FPS players. Equipped with 42,000-dpi ROG AimPoint Pro optical sensor, ROG Optical Micro Switches and ROG SpeedNova wireless technology, the Keris II Ace levels up on ROG impressive polling rate and click latency via the ROG Polling Rate Booster, which enables polling rates up to 4,000 Hz in wireless mode and up to 8000 Hz in wired mode.

Super-light 54-gram weight with ROG Gaming mouse build quality: Ensures quick and precise movements with minimal handling fatigue. Premium quality continues as a hallmark of ROG mice ensuring outstanding fit, finish and feel. PBT L/R buttons also offer superior durability and resistance against wear and shine over time while also offering subtle texture. ROG Polling Rate Booster: Level up beyond ASUS ROG's already impressive 1,000 Hz polling rate performance & stability. The next level awaits for those demanding the lowest input latency. Attach the ROG Polling Rate Booster to enable polling rates up to 4000 Hz in wireless mode and up to 8000 Hz in wired mode. This new level of ultra-high polling rate performance perfectly complements the latest 240 Hz+ ROG gaming monitors.

Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 Gets 4 kHz Response Rate Upgrade

Logitech's G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 wireless gaming mouse arrived last September with an MSRP of $159—at the time, cutting-edge peripheral enthusiasts were expecting a mighty upgrade over the ultra popular 2020 iteration. TPU's resident mouse guru—pzogel—had a "hard time making a case for the Pro X Superlight 2," when comparing it to the preceding model. Additionally, the Superlight 2's closest rival—Razer's Viper V2 Pro when combined with their 4K HyperPolling Wireless Dongle—was deemed technologically superior. A November 2023 leak revealed that Logitech was readying an intriguing firmware update—the Superlight 2 was set to be upgraded with a 4 kHz report rate mode.

The launch specification of 2 kHz (maximum) was a disappointing aspect, considering that many cheaper alternatives had already rolled out with higher polling rates (via external dongles). Logitech's latest G HUB software update brings good news for PRO X Superlight 2 users: "we are excited to share a new firmware update for your mouse that will increase your report rate to 4 kHz for free. Once you update the firmware, you'll be able to access the higher report rate in G HUB using your existing wireless dongle. For more information, visit our YouTube channel for an update from Chris Pate." In TPU's late October review, pzogel noted that the 2000 Hz rate: "comes at a price, which is reduced battery life." We hope to see a revisit with the newly implemented 4000 Hz mode tested out.

Cooler Master Showcases MasterKeys & MasterMouse Products at CES '24

Cooler Master presented its upcoming MasterKeys hybrid wireless gaming keyboard at CES 2024—the MK770 was debuted at last year's event, but has not reached retail in the iterim period. A variety of chassis and keycap color sets were showcased at CES '23, but that tally has decreased at Cooler Master's 2024 convention exhibit—Space Gray and Macaron are the two consolidated choices. The feature set presented a year ago seems to be largely intact—TPU noted that the MK770 is still advertised as having a hot-swappable mechanical switch system, gasket structure (for noise and vibration reduction), coupled with a noise-absorbing design plus silicone dampers. Kailh Box V2 switches are part of this customizable package, plus US and TC regional versions will get high-purity PBT double shot keycaps, for increased durability and long-lasting colors.

The MasterMouse MM712 Wired Gaming mouse also made a re-appearance at CES 2024. We last witnessed this small + lightweight (sub 50 grams) pointing device at Cooler Master's Computex 2023 booth, alongside its fancier MM712 PRO wireless sibling. The wired version sits alone at this year's event; we are not sure why the PRO version is absent. The MM712 Wired is presented as a permanently Ultraweaved cable-equipped alternative to Cooler Master's existing MM712 hybrid model, although the shell and main buttons have been redesigned to eliminate uncomfortable pinching of skin. The spec sheet confirms that Pixart's top-flight PAW3395 optical sensor has been integrated into the MM712 Wired, granting a maximum 26,000 DPI setting.

Windows 11 23H2 Update Promises Reduced Stuttering in Games

The latest update for Windows 11 appears to bring good news for gamers, as Microsoft is said to have fixed an issue related to stuttering in games that's related to certain gaming mice. The mice in question are mice that support a "high gaming report rate" which is pretty much all higher-end gaming mice today, regardless of manufacturer. What's worse, we're not talking 8000 Hz mice here, but a polling rate of 1000 Hz was enough to trigger the stuttering in some games.

It's unclear if this affected all games, or only some games, but according to Windows Latest, Microsoft has optimised the Windows input stack to be able to handle high report rate mice which is said to have been done by improving "the performance by throttling and coalescing background raw mouse listeners and capping their message rate." As such, the 23H2 update for Windows 11 will become something of a must install for anyone that's gaming on Windows 11, at least if you haven't lowered the polling rate on your mouse.

Fantech Aria XD7 Gaming Mouse Receives Two New Colorways, Ready to Order Now

Fantech has uploaded an unboxing video featuring the two new color variations of its Aria XD7 wireless gaming mouse - Sakura Pink and Retro Beige. These new colorways join the original lineup - consisting of standard black and white editions. The pink and beige models were first revealed late last year, and an expected/estimated release date was teased for Q1 2023. Alas, it seems that the fresh product lineup has undergone delays - until now - the Sakura and Retro Beige Aria XD7 models are available to order directly from Fantech's online store or regional retailers.

The Fantech Aria XD7 wireless gaming mouse was first released during last year's Spring season, and the compact powerhouse was immediately hailed as a very decent alternative to its closest rivals - in the shape of Logitech's G305 and Razer's Orochi V2 - the Aria also offered very up-to-date interior components and a low weight - coming in at 59 grams. The flagship Pixart PAW3395 optical sensor (max. 26,000 DPI) provided a significant technical upgrade over similarly egg-shaped mice on the market, and Fantech chose to sell the Aria XD7 at a very reasonable price (MSRP $70). Other notable features include a pair of Kailh GM 8.0 primary switches, a TTC Gold scroll wheel encoder, pure PTFE skates and the inclusion of a generous accessories package.

Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT in Neon Yellow Colorway Is Leaked by Online Store in Singapore

A well reputed Singaporean electronics store has created a pre-order listing for a bright yellow version of Logitech's G PRO X SUPERLIGHT wireless gaming mouse. The pre-order page seems to have appeared at some point late last week, on e-commerce marketplace Carousell SG, and keen eyed members of the /mousereview subreddit were quick to post about the newly leaked edition.

It was debated whether the listing and images of the model were a fake out, but community members local to Singapore have claimed that the Xtreme Solution store has a great reputation with customers and hardware suppliers alike.

Delux Updates its Flagship M800PRO Gaming Mouse, Pre-Orders Open for April Launch

Delux is lining up significant upgrades for its top-of-the-line M800PRO model, which is a not too subtle clone of Razer's Viper series of symmetrical-shaped gaming mice. Enthusiasts have placed the M800's chassis as an intermediate between the full-sized Viper and Viper Mini, so it could be considered as a medium-sized equivalent. In order to match the competition in terms of specifications and features, Delux has sought to upgrade the M800PRO's internal hardware and has also made changes to its externals.

Pixart's PAW3395 has been selected as the new optical sensor, which is a significant generational upgrade over the previous M800PRO iteration's PAW3370. Delux has not confirmed, within its specifications list, whether MotionSync will be enabled by default. The upgraded sensor is capable of running this feature, and the vast majority of gaming mouse manufacturers have chosen to enable it. The PAW3395 is rated for a 26,000 maximum DPI, 650 IPS speed, 50 g acceleration and 1000 Hz polling rate. The lift off distance (LOD) is adjustable between heights of 1 and 2 mm.
