EVGA's Halloween offering, the mystical graphics accelerator with two different GPUs - each handing one kind of task - is official. Behold the EVGA GTX 275 Co-op PhysX accelerator. This unique graphics accelerator uses an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 GPU to handle the primary task of graphics processing, while offloads GPGPU related tasks, such as game physics acceleration using the company's PhysX technology, to a second GeForce GTS 250 GPU. While the GTX 275 component has 896 MB of GDDR3 memory across its usual 448-bit wide interface, the GTS 250 has 512 MB of it across its 256-bit wide interface, 1280 MB total on board (though not the total amount of memory available to a 3D application).

While not intended to be a true dual-GPU accelerator in essence that the two GPUs work in tandem to render graphics, the design ensures that the GeForce GTX 275 works with zero overhead from processing PhysX. The two GPUs are not part of an SLI multi-GPU array. With the provision of two SLI fingers, users can pair up to three of these in a 3-way SLI array. It is logically possible to pair this with other normal GeForce GTX 275 accelerators as well.

Following a recent exposé of pictures and performance figures of the Radeon HD 5750, another one covering that of the ASUS Radeon HD 5770 has surfaced. Using a test bed powered by an AMD Phenom II X4 945, 4 GB of DDR3-1333 memory, and Windows 7 64-bit, a member of the Chinese PC enthusiast portal community MyMyPC.com put an ASUS Radeon HD 5770 accelerator through 3DMark Vantage Performance preset (to yield its GPU score), 3DMark06, and FurMark (to check temperatures). It was compared to other popular graphics accelerators in (or around) the sub-$200 league, including Radeon HD 4890, GeForce GTX 260, and GeForce GTX 275. While in the 3DMark06 test the Radeon HD 5770 edges past the GeForce GTX 260, with 3DMark Vantage (GPU score), it lags behind the rest of the league, by at least around 1000 points. This gives an indication that as far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 5770 could be comparable to the Radeon HD 4870, at least in these applications.

The world's well-known graphics card and mainboard manufacturer, MSI, today officially announced new product of top-of-the-range Lightning series graphics card, N275GTX Lightning. MSI is building its GeForce GTX 200 Lightning series with its newest entry, the N275GTX, based on the GeForce GTX 275. With the new GPU being compatible with existing GeForce GTX 260 PCBs, it was expected of MSI to reuse the PCB and cooler the N260GTX Lightning featured. Instead, the company came up with a newer cooler, with a slightly different PCB. While retaining the Twin Frozr heatsink, MSI changed the shroud and added slightly larger fans.

The PCB makes use of an 8+2 phase power circuit, with more durable solid-state chokes. Simply put, instead of traditional chokes having the toroidal coil and ferrite bar (core) enclosed in a slightly cubical casing, these chokes use an iron chunk with the toroidal coil embedded. The lack of a ferrite core in its traditional form, effectively reduces energy loss. It also cuts the high-pitched noise heard when the GPU is at its maximum power draw. The PCB also uses flat-bed Hi-C capacitors that add to the durability. The card also features hardware APS (phase switching) that can power down phases when the card is idling or is performing low-power tasks. The outputs on this card are DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. It features 1792 MB of GDDR3 memory. Additional details such as clock speeds, availability, and price, are not known at this point in time.

It seems that ZOTAC has also borrowed Arctic Cooling Accelero EXTREME VGA cooling for some of its high-end graphics cards. Soon enough ZOTAC will make an announcement for its third GeForce GTX 275 card, the Accelero equipped ZOTAC GTX275-896D3 with 896 MB. The upcoming card is based on the P897 PCB with a 6+1 phase power design, a 448-bit memory interface, DirectX 10 and 3-way SLI support. In contrast to the GALAXY GeForce GTX 275 with AC, the ZOTAC card will come with stock frequencies - 633 MHz core, 1404 MHz shaders and 2268 MHz for the memory. Zotac's Accelero-powered GTX 275 is expected sometime this month, price is yet unknown.

GALAXY, well known for its highly customized video cards, has once again developed a GeForce GTX 275 card that feels a bit different than stock cards. The new GALAXY GeForce GTX 275 comes with a huge cooler, developed by Arctic Cooling. That's the AC Accelero EXTREME with three 80 mm PWM fans, 5 heatpipes and 107 fins, enough to cool the overclocked to 650 MHz core, 1475 MHz shader and 1200 MHz memory card and even sufficient for further overclocking. The card also uses self designed PCB and elements desing with digital PWM and digital MOSFETs. It has two BIOS chips and is bundled with GALAXY's Xtreme Tuner software for BIOS recovery, fan speed, and overclocking adjustments. The memory capacity is 896 MB GDDR3. There's no public information on pricing and availability date.

NVIDIA today released its GeForce 182.50 driver suite for Windows XP and Windows Vista. This release comes at a time when the company released the GeForce GTX 275 accelerator, making it obvious the driver extends support to it. While the driver doesn't aim bring in application-specific enhancements, it does fix numerous bugs, which invariably may improve product quality. NVIDIA today announced the GeForce GTX 275 GPU, the latest addition to NVIDIA's performance GPU lineup, offering first-rate graphics, physics, and GPU computing performance, as well as the absolute best price-performance for today's value-conscious gamers.

Based on the GT200 architecture, the GeForce GTX 275 GPU features 240 processor cores operating at 1404 MHz, 80 texture processing units, a 448-bit memory interface, and an 896 MB framebuffer. In price and performance, it sits between the GeForce GTX 260 and the GeForce GTX 285.

XFX is starting its Radeon HD 4890 lineup with three models graded by the core clock-speed they come with. The base-model will carry reference clock speeds of 850/975 MHz (core/memory), the XFX HD 4890 XT, with clock speeds of 875/975 MHz, and the XFX HD 4890 XXX, with clock speeds of 900/975 MHz.

Something about the XXX model is interesting: almost every other AMD partner has a Radeon HD 4890 variant with the same core clock-speed: A certain ASUS Radeon HD 4890, Sapphire HD 4890 Toxic, HIS HD 4890 Turbo, and MSI HD 4890 OC, and a recent AMD slide exposé showing two distinct grades of Radeon HD 4890, with the second one being a "Radeon HD 4890 OC". This grade, according to Expreview, is believed to have high clock speeds, to increase competitiveness against the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 accelerator.

Coming back to the XFX HD 4890 XXX, the card (not pictured yet) comes in a peculiar "X"-shaped box. It comes with a free copy of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., and is backed by the company's "5-star support". It is expected to be priced above US $250, which is supposed to be the base-price for Radeon HD 4890.

As reviewers world-over unbox their Radeon HD 4890 samples, NVIDIA, in a last-bid attempt not to give ATI a fortnight's headstart over GeForce GTX 275, has pulled its launch forward to April 2, the day Radeon HD 4890 hits shelves. Our sources however, indicate that this will be merely a paper-launch for NVIDIA, meaning that the actual product doesn't exist in retail channels, only that its SKU officially exists, get listed, perhaps gets open to pre-orders by retailers, and what's more, even previewed.

It will be mid-April by the time retailers actually start to sell GeForce GTX 275 accelerators. The accelerators will be of non-reference designs, with the specifications we know so far: 55 nm G200b GPU, 240 stream processors, 448-bit GDDR3 memory interface, and 896 or 1792 MB of memory. The clock speeds the card will run at are known to be 633/1404/1138 MHz (core/shader/memory). Its price will be very competitive with that of the Radeon HD 4890, around the US $250 mark.

Pitted for direct competition with ATI Radeon HD 4890, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 275 is slated for launch in April. The new SKU already has a listing by European retailer DollarShops.eu, where it is priced at 249 Euro. Yet another $1 = €1 equation in the making, as $249 is expected to be its American MSRP.

This time around, NVIDIA leaves it to the partners to make and sell graphics cards based on the GPU. Technically boards supporting the GeForce GTX 260 with its 14 memory chips, should be able to support the new GPU, which has 240 stream processors, while having a 448-bit wide GDDR3 memory interface, coming with memory capacities of 896 MB or even 1792 MB, if partners choose.

With version 0.3.3, the application expands its support base to some popular upcoming products, namely ATI Radeon HD 4700 desktop series, Radeon HD 4890, and GeForce GTX 275. Some common bugs found with previous versions, notably GT200 process size calculation, and G98 SP counts, have been fixed.

With AMD's new graphics card: the Radeon HD 4890 heading towards an April 6~8 worldwide launch, NVIDIA is looking at the situation carefully. While not wanting to spend much into devising a countermeasure, it still wants to address the potential threat Radeon HD 4890 poses. The most recent exposé by Taiwanese website OC Heaven shows there is reason to be optimistic about the performance HD 4890 could end up offering. NVIDIA's counter to the HD 4890 depends on where exactly it lands in its competitive positioning against NVIDIA. If it is closer to or better than what the GeForce GTX 285 offers, NVIDIA may bring in price-cuts for the GTX 285, making it more competitive, but if it is poised somewhere between the GTX 260 (216SP) and GTX 285, the new SKU GTX 275 will be brought in.

The new GPU will be specified to have all its 240 stream processors enabled, while having the memory interface GTX 260 comes with: 448-bit GDDR3, with memory configurations of 896 MB or 1792 MB. Furthermore, its development will be care of NVIDIA's partners, who gain license to do so from the company. NVIDIA will not develop a reference design. The launch of the new SKU will coincide with that of the HD 4890, perhaps a few days trailing it.
