HP unveiled a new variant of its Pavilion dv6 15.6-inch notebook driven by AMD A8-4500M quad-core APU (model: dv6-7010us). The A8-4500M packs four x86-64 cores clocked at 1.90~2.80 GHz, 4 MB total cache, and Radeon HD 7640G integrated graphics. The APU is backed by 6 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory. A 750 GB hard drive and DVD SuperMulti drive handle storage. The 15.6-inch screen packs 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. Connectivity includes gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, and Bluetooth. The laptop in question is the IdeaPad Y480 which features a 14-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display, an Intel 3rd generation Core processor (either the 2.4 GHz i3-2370M or 2.3 GHz i7-3610QM), up to 8 GB of RAM, up to a 1 TB HDD (and a 32 GB SSD), and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card with 1 GB or 2 GB of VRAM.

Lenovo's 14-inch mobile PC is 32.8 mm (1.3-inch) thick and also has a brushed-metal chassis, a backlit keyboard (optional), a 1.0-megapixel webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, JBL stereo speakers, a 6-in-1 card reader, two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI output, and a 6-cell battery allowing up to 4 hours of use per charge.

The IdeaPad Y480 runs Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and it starts at $849.

ORICO Unveils Colorful NCP-Series Laptop Cooling Pads

ORICO unveiled its latest NCP-series laptop cooling pads for laptops as big as 14-inch. The NCP-1522 pad uses active air cooling, handled by a single, silent 140 mm fan. The entire top of the pad is made of perforated plastic, which comes in seven color options. The pad is powered by a USB connection, which is reused to give out two downstream USB 2.0 ports, apart from powering the fan. The fan speed can be adjusted by a rheostat. ORICO is yet to unveil pricing and availability information for the NCP-1522 cooling pad.

MSI L2700 (Brazos 2.0-Based) Laptop Goes on Sale, in South Korea

AMD's Brazos 2.0 platform has (quietly) hit the streets in South Korean as part of MSI's newest 11.6-inch notebook, the L2700. Seen below, MSI's mobile machine weights 1.3 kg, and features an 1366 x 768-pixel display, a 1.7 GHz E2-1800 APU (with two Bobcat x86 cores and Radeon HD 7340 graphics), 4 GB of RAM, a 64 GB solid state drive,a webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 4-in-1 card reader, a HDMI output, one USB 3.0 port, and a 6-cell battery.

The L2700 costs just about $431.

Ivy Bridge-powered Sony VAIO E Series 14P Spotted in the Wild

Sony's VAIO E Series 14P notebooks went Ivy Bridge with model#SVE14A16FGH. This 14-incher (1600x900 pixels) is powered by an Intel Core i7-3612QM quad-core processor (2.10 GHz with 3.10 GHz boost), 4 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory, and AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics. A 750 GB HDD and DVD writer are at the helm of storage. USB 3.0, HDMI and D-Sub, wireless b/g/n, 1.3 MP webcam, and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of it. It retains the E series 14P chassis that's already launched. The leak occurred at Sony Australia, SVE14A16FGH goes for AU $1,499 (US $1,554) Down Under.

HP China has now put up for sale on its website the 14-inch Pavilion dm4-3110tx Beats Edition laptop which is equipped with one 3rd generation Intel Core processor, namely the quad-core 2.1 GHz Core i7-3612QM. In addition to packing an Ivy Bridge 22 nm CPU, the laptop has an LED-backlit (1366 x 768) HD BrightView display, 4 GB of RAM, a 750 GB hard drive, a DVD writer, and an AMD Radeon HD 7570M 1 GB discrete graphics card.

The dm4-3110tx also comes with a chiclet keyboard with a red backlight, a 720p webcam, a memory card reader, a fingerprint reader, WiFi, Bluetooth, a HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports, Beats audio, and a 6-cell battery. The laptop costs 6,799 yuan (~ $1,078).

ORICO Readies NCA Series Passive Laptop Cooling Pads

ORICO is working on a new line of passive notebook cooling pads that are made of thick sheets of perforated aluminum with rubber feet and grips. Designed for 15.6-inch and 14-inch notebooks, these coolers raise notebooks at a fixed angle, from where passive air cooling takes over. CGI drawings reveal that the aluminum sheets that make up most of the pad dissipate heat from the notebook to the air. The perforations on its surfaced are designed in a way that allows users to strap PC fans on to it, of almost any shape and size, and at almost any specific region of the pad. There is no word on availability.

ASUS G55VW (Ivy Bridge-Based) Gaming Laptop Up for Pre-Order

Not waiting on Intel to launch its Ivy Bridge line-up, HIDevolution.com has went ahead and put up a pre-order page for the ASUS G55VW-DS71 gaming laptop which is powered by the Core i7-3610M processor. Beside packing a 3rd-generation Core chip, ASUS' new ROG-branded mobile machine features a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 2 GB graphics card, up to 16 GB of RAM, and up to three storage drives (HDD, HHD, SSD options are available).

The G55VW-DS71 also has Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8-in-1 card reader, a 2.0 megapixel webcam, a HDMI output, a Thunderbolt port, one USB 3.0 connector, and an 8-cell (5200 mAh / 75 Whr) battery. ASUS' laptop runs Windows 7 (Home Premium or Ultimate) and starts at $1,475.

Ivy Bridge-Powered Lenovo ThinkPad T430 Laptop Exposed

Usually we have online shops spilling the beans on upcoming hardware but this time a university website (that of St. John's University) has jumped the gun and provided details on Lenovo's yet-to-be-released ThinkPad T430 laptop.

According to stjohns.edu, the T430 features a 'durable industrial design', a 14-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display, an Intel Core i5-3210M processor (other CPU options are likely), 6 GB of RAM, a 320 GB (7200 RPM) hard drive, integrated graphics, a DVD writer, a 720p webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, USB 3.0, a 4-in-1 card reader, and a 6-cell battery. The laptop's price tag has not been revealed.

ASUS U32U 13.3-inch Ultra-Portable Goes on Sale

Taiwanese heavyweight ASUS has now rolled out in the US its newest U Series ultra-thin laptop, the U32U(-ES21) featuring a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display and an AMD 1.65 GHz E-450 APU with Radeon HD 6320 graphics.

ASUS' machine is one inch thick and has a hairline aluminum cover, 4 GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, Altec Lansing speakers, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3-in-1 card reader, a HDMI output, and an 8-cell battery enabling up to 10 hours of operation. The U32U-ES21 can be found on Amazon priced at $449.99.
