Adapted from technology that GE researchers originally developed for commercial jet engines, GE (NYSE: GE) has announced a major technology breakthrough, called DCJ, which adapts this technology for the cooling of consumer electronics. DCJ will support the next generation of thinner, quieter and more powerful tablets, laptops and other electronic devices.

GE's DCJ (Dual Piezoelectric Cooling Jets), behave as a micro-fluidic bellows that provide high-velocity jets of air to cool electronic components. The turbulent air flow of the DCJ increases the heat transfer rate to more than ten times that of natural convection.

Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), today announced the availability of its Killer DoubleShot offering on high performance gaming laptops from MSI Computer. It's no secret that Microsoft's proprietary gesture-recognition technology it originally launched on the Xbox platform, is making its way to PCs, as software developers have access to Kinect for Windows SDK. What's interesting, though, is that soon people won't need a creepy-looking three-eyed device facing them to recognize their gestures. They will, instead, be embedded into notebook display bezels the way web-cameras are.

The Daily reports that it has seen a pair of notebook prototypes that appeared to have been "ASUS notebooks running Windows 8," with their web-cam replaced by a row of optical sensors on top of the screen, and a row of LEDs said to be at the bottom. Some might think that this is ASUS' very own Kinect-alternative WAVI Xtion, but The Daily also confirmed with a source at Microsoft that these prototypes are indeed of notebooks that are Kinect-enabled.

Intel today introduces four new mobile processors, and a new mobile chipset. The new CPUs include three Core 2 Duo models - T9900 (TDP 35W, 6 MB of L2 cache, $530 price), P9700 (TDP 25W, $348 price), P8800 (3 MB of L2 cache, $241) clocked at 3.06 GHz, 2.80 GHz and 2.66 GHz respectively, and the ultra-thin laptop orientated SU2700 that works at 1.3 GHz. As for the Core 2 Duo models, they all feature a 1066 MHz FSB. In addition, Intel today unveils the Mobile Intel GS40 Express chipset for future ULV-based laptops. This value chipset enables ULV-based laptops to support features consumers have come to expect from laptops including HD playback, Windows Vista Premium support and native support for integrated HDMI. All new Intel stuff is shipping now to retail and OEM channels, so you should expect availability very soon.

Intel researchers have developed the world's first embedded balanced antenna for digital TV. This patent-pending Intel innovation will enable on-the-go users to watch digital television on their laptop without the need for an external antenna. Eliminating the external antenna reduces the number of items to purchase, carry and keep track of. No other details were unveiled.
