Ratoc Systems Unveils 2-bay Enclosure/NAS

Ratoc Systems unveiled the RS-EC32-CLD, a 2-bay 3.5-inch SATA drive enclosure that works as both a USB 3.0 RAID enclosure, and a RAID-enabled NAS. The enclosure offers RAID 0, 1, JBOD modes, with the ability to hot-swap drives in RAID 1 mode. When connected via USB 3.0, the enclosure behaves as a USB mass-storage device. As a NAS, it supports basic features and protocols, including remote access over internet. Measuring 81 x 173 x 123 mm (WxDxH), and made mostly of SECC steel, its dry-weight is around 820 g. Slated for early-October, it is priced at 16,800 JPY (US $214).

Synology and Symform Team Up to Protect Data in the Cloud

Synology today announced a new partnership with Symform, a revolutionary cloud storage and backup service, to provide users with an alternative way to backup data. By installing the SymformBeta package from Synology Package Center, users can receive 10 gigabytes of free data backup, and up to 200 gigabytes free if they join and contribute excess local drive space to the Symform Cloud Storage Network, a globally distributed, peer-to-peer cloud storage network.

QNAP Enables Symform Storage and Google Drive Sync Support to its NAS Lineup

QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced its Symform cloud storage backup integration has been upgraded with unlimited cloud storage capacity by trading local storage capacity for cloud capacity, and now includes new Google Drive Sync feature. The improved integration of cloud storage services aims to provide QNAP Turbo NAS users with more flexible options for file backup.

QNAP included Symform's service that provides Turbo NAS users up to 10 GB free storage capacity for cloud backup. The new service advances the offering to a free and unlimited cloud backup storage by users' contribution. Users can expand their cloud capacity by contributing local storage to Symform Storage Cloud, and in return get additional capacity in the Symform cloud. Synology Also Launches DX513 eSATA NAS Expansion Unit

Synology Inc. today announced the release of a new 5-bay expansion unit, the DX513, a quick and effortless storage expansion solution for selected DiskStations with hot-swappable drive design aimed at businesses and power users.

As storage drives on Synology DiskStations reach their capacity limits, the DX513 provides an immediate solution to remedy this by scaling up DiskStation storage allowance through an additional five bays. RAID volume expansion can be directly performed by the paired DiskStation without reformatting existing hard drives; this allows continuous service uptime for the paired DiskStation throughout the storage expansion process. Furthermore, DX513 can function as a great alternative local backup solution if created as an independent volume for the paired DiskStation.

Toshiba Announces Canvio Personal Cloud NAS

Toshiba announced the Canvio Personal Cloud, a small-scale desktop NAS device that comes with pre-installed media, and two variants - 2 TB and 3 TB. It features most common NAS features, including applications for iOS and Android that let you configure the device and access its data over local network or the internet. Internally, the Canvio Personal Cloud appears to use a single 3.5-inch SATA hard drive. It uses gigabit Ethernet as its only network interface, and features a USB 2.0 port that lets you add mass-storage devices and expand its storage. The 2 TB variant starts at US $220, while the 3 TB starts at $250. Market availability is expected to be some time in September.

Shuttle Delivers Powerful New 3-litre PC for Energy-Efficient LGA1155 Processors

Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH, the European subsidiary of Shuttle Inc., one of the leading developers and manufacturers of compact PC solutions such as the world-renowned XPC Mini-PC Barebones, today announces the introduction of a new model in its 3-litre PC product series. The XH61V - an improved version of the previous XH61 - is now available from specialist retailers.

Seagate Completes Acquisition of a Controlling Interest in LaCie

Following their press releases issued on May 23, 2012 and June 14, 2012, Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ:STX) and LaCie S.A. (Euronext:LAC) announced today the completion of the purchase by Seagate of all of the shares of Philippe Spruch and his affiliate, representing 64.5% of the outstanding shares of LaCie for a provisional price of €4.05 per share. The price payable to Philippe Spruch and his affiliate may be increased by 3%, to €4.17 per share, in the event that within six months following today's date, Seagate holds at least 95% of the share capital and voting rights of LaCie.

The completion of the transaction follows the required clearances from the French Ministry of Finance and the US and German Antitrust Authorities. As a result of the completion of the transaction, Seagate intends to file in the coming weeks with the French Autorité des marches financiers an all-cash simplified tender offer on the remaining LaCie shares.
