ORICO Launches High-Performing Portable USB4 SSD Inspired by Mondrian

ORICO - Shenzhen-based innovative enterprise focusing on high-performance solutions for USB data transmission and charging - is proud to unveil the ORICO USB4 High Speed Portable SSD Montage 40 Gbps series, with a striking and durable design inspired Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. The bold and bright aesthetic draws from Mondrian's famous work Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow, incorporating the thick black lines and blocks of color that immediately distinguish the device from the monochrome alternatives on the market. Loud, but not lurid, the design is applied with the durable in-mold labeling technique also found in automobile manufacturing for its resistance to corrosion.

However, the product engineers at ORICO do not pursue form over function and have invested in the right technology to make the Montage 40 Gbps series one of the best-performing SSDs available. During performance testing, the drive achieved 3,126 MB/s reading speed, a 2,832 MB/s writing speed, and transferred 3 GB files in just one second, matching, and even surpassing, many leading products currently on the market. Accompanied by a versatile 2-in-1 data cable for USB type A and type C connections, the drive is widely compatible and able to be used with Mac OS, Windows, Android, and Linux operating systems without requiring a driver. Depending on user requirements, the Montage series offers capacity options ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. "We are so excited to launch the eye-catching Montage series, serving superior performance and carrying a timeless aesthetic that really transcends style trends," commented Xu Yeyou, CEO of ORICO. "We had in mind on-the-go creatives, such as photographers and video editors, when designing the product."

The three use single upstream USB 3.0 connections, and an external DC power input to ensure at least the power spec requirements are met. Each of the downstream ports has a single link/activity LED. At the heart of the three is VIA's VLI VL811 USB 3.0 hub controller, which is awaiting USB-IF certification. The three are fabricated with 2 mm-thick aluminum sheets. The A3H4, A3H7, and A3H10 are priced at 218 RMB (US $35), 298 RMB (US $48), 398 RMB (US $64), respectively.

Orico Unveils HDD Power Switch

Have tons of hard-drives plugged to internal ports in your machine? Want control over which ones stay on, and don't trust your OS or apps to wake random drives up from their slumber, stepping up noise and power draw? Orico has a solution for you. The HD-PW6102 is an accessory that fits into any of your multiple empty 5.25-inch drive bays, and gives you manual switches to six SATA power cables. The device draws power from two 4-pin Molex connectors, and gives out six SATA power cables, which are sleeved. Each of the six cables can be manually plugged out of the box.

To use the HD-PW6102 properly, the SATA controller needs to be set in AHCI mode, with hot-plugging enabled. The device manually gates power to drives to turn them off. With AHCI hot-plugging enabled, you can use the "safely remove hardware" menu in your system tray to deactivate a drive before switching it off with the device. To use the drive again, simply switch it on, and the OS mounts it like any other PnP storage volume. In addition to push-switches, it has power indicators for each of the six drives. The main body and front bezel are made of brushed aluminum. The accessory started selling in Orico's homeland China, where it's priced at 373 RMB (US $60).

ORICO is working on a new line of passive notebook cooling pads that are made of thick sheets of perforated aluminum with rubber feet and grips. Designed for 15.6-inch and 14-inch notebooks, these coolers raise notebooks at a fixed angle, from where passive air cooling takes over. CGI drawings reveal that the aluminum sheets that make up most of the pad dissipate heat from the notebook to the air. The perforations on its surfaced are designed in a way that allows users to strap PC fans on to it, of almost any shape and size, and at almost any specific region of the pad. There is no word on availability.

ORICO Intos KM6116 Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo

Chinese company ORICO unveiled the KM6116 value wireless keyboard mouse combo, that includes a 1600 DPI 3+scroll button mouse, and a narrow QWERTY keyboard with the EN-US keyset. The mouse uses an optical sensor with resolution switchable between 1600, 1200, 800, and 400 DPI, on the fly. Lower resolutions could help conserve battery. In its belly, the mouse hides the battery compartment (two AAA-size), and a space where the 2.4 GHz band wireless USB micro-receiver can be stored for transportation. The same receiver handles both the mouse and the keyboard. The keyboard is of a common membrane type, with 12 multimedia other shortcut keys. The keyboard takes in two AAA-sized batteries, too. Both devices have several power saving features that work to increase battery draw. The ORICO KM6116 goes for 89 RMB (US $14).
