Corsair Readies Individual-Sleeved PSU Modular Cables

Individual-sleeved replacement PSU cables are the in-thing with enthusiasts and case-modders now, thanks to the appealing "organic" look that they bring into cases. There are quite a few companies that have taken interest in it. These are sets of cables for PSUs in which each individual cable is sleeved, rather than a bunch of them. This also allows modders to create patterns using differently colored cable sleeves. Corsair jumped into the fray with upgrades for its Professional (HX series) and Professional Gold (AX series) modular PSUs. These cables will be available in black, red, blue, and white colors. Corsair put up product pages of these under the PSU accessories section. A high-end gaming PC using these cables was pictured by Legit Reviews. These cables are available in complete kits, their prices range between US $79.99 to $99.99.

Arctic To Sue AMD Over ''Fusion'' Brand Name

Swiss company Arctic (formerly Arctic Cooling), has used the brand name "Fusion" on its PSU products well before AMD's so-called "Fusion" APU family came to be. Arctic was smart enough to register its trademark, and is now piling up ammo to take AMD to court over alleged trademark infringement. Arctic acquired the brand name "Fusion" from Boot Up International Ltd., and its Fusion trademark is valid in Europe. Still a sizable market for AMD.

The interesting part is, AMD doesn't use "Fusion" as a brand name anywhere, except maybe its company slogan "The future is fusion", where "fusion" is used as a verb (fusion of various computing technologies to give a homogenous computing experience), and the company internally referring to its APU architecture as "Fusion", on the outside though, AMD brands its APUs under its Vision processor family, with no "Fusion" branding anywhere, except the company slogan.

Scythe Launches Solid Power Bronze and Solid Power Gold Series in Japan

Scythe launched two new lines of power supply units in its home country, Japan, the Solid Power Bronze and Solid Power Gold. These PSUs are designed to have high cost-performance ratios, and offer power capacities typically needed by today's gaming PCs. The Solid Power Bronze series includes 550W and 650W models, while the Solid Power Gold series includes 500W and 600W models.

Both lines use identical-looking bodies, measuring W150 x D140 x H86 mm, with fixed cabling, and cooled by 120 mm silent fans. Apart from 24-pin ATX and 4+4-pin EPS, the Solid Power Bronze 550W includes two 6+2-pin PCIe, one FDD power, three Molex, and six SATA power; the 650W variant has six Molex connectors, and eight SATA power connectors, instead. The Solid Power Gold 500W and 600W, apart from 24-pin ATX and 4+4-pin EPS, offer two PCIe 6+2-pin, six Molex, and six SATA power connectors.

Thermaltake Toughpower XT Whitewashed, Too

After cases and coolers, it's the turn of Toughpower XT high-end PSUs by Thermaltake to get a whitewash, the company unveiled its "Snow Edition" variant. The Toughpower XT 1275W modular PSU is pictured below. Aesthetically, its main body is colored white, but its fan grille is the same chrome one, and its fan impeller is black (although the press-shot in the placard features a white impeller). Its fixed cabling has white sleeves, and modular (detachable) ones are pure-white flat cables, with black or red colored connectors to add a nice contrast.

The PSU has stellar efficiency, as it is 80 Plus Platinum certified. It features peak power output of 1375W, although 1275W is guaranteed and advertised. It features full bridge and LLC resonance circuitry with the DC-DC switching module, and interleaved active PFC. Its cables include eight PCIe power connectors, including six 6+2 pin, and two 8-pin. It is backed by a 7-year warranty.

SilverStone Displays Zeus Series 1350W Modular PSU

SilverStone showed off a new high-Wattage PSU under its new Zeus "industrial class" series, the Zeus 1350W (model number ZM1350). The Zeus 1350W relies on a single massive 105A +12V rail design. Measuring 150 x 86 x 233 mm (WxHxD), this box is longer than usual. It is ventilated by a single 80 mm fan. Already 'sounding' scary? Its noise output levels are rated to be 21~40 dBA. This PSU is completely modular, and looking at its connectors on the main unit, we can guess its connector loadout to include a 24-pin ATX connector, two 8-pin EPS connectors, about 10 PCIe power connectors, and various SATA/peripheral connectors. The Zeus 1350W is 80 Plus Silver certified. Expect an uppish (not lavish) pricing with this one.

EVGA NEX Series PSUs Pictured

EVGA is readying a new line of high performance power supply units (PSUs) for gaming PCs and overclocking bench setups, under the NEX Series. The company isn't new to PSUs, as it had rolled out a SuperRecord-branded 1200W PSU in the past. The NEX Series, however, is more spread out, into various price points. At least four models are confirmed, 650W and 750W models for gaming PCs, a 1000W model for overclocked gaming PCs with 2~3 graphics cards, and a bleeding-edge 1500W model for overclocking bench setups.

The EVGA NEX 1500W will include "customizable" +12V rails, we're hearing. It will probably be a mechanism with which a number of smaller 12V rails can be combined to make a larger one. It will feature a "Dummy Mode" for multiple/redundant PSU operations, an "OC Mode" that clubs all 12V rails to a single 133A one, and a very special kind of cabling. The PSU will qualify for 80 Plus Gold certification. The 650W, 750W, and 1000W models in the NEX Series will have more standard feature-sets, including modular cabling, all three of these will be 80 Plus Gold certified.

AMD A8-3870K Overclocked to 5.87 GHz CPU, 1.32 GHz GPU in Suicide-Run

A Japanese overclocker achieved a 96% CPU clock speed increase and 121% GPU clock speed increase during a "suicide-run" using a retail AMD A8-3870K Black Edition processor. The feat was conducted by OverclockWorks, a tech-community and store for Japanese overclockers. A CPU clock speed of 5,875 MHz was achieved using a base clock speed of 125 MHz, and multiplier of 47.0x, and a brutal core voltage of 1.872V. The integrated Radeon HD 6550D GPU was overclocked to 1,327 MHz from its default 600 MHz. The overclocker claimed that his feat is "probably the world's best", though, like some of the most unstable suicide-runs, the system was too unstable to run benchmarks. Apart from the A8-3870K, the test-bench consisted of ASUS F1A75-V Pro motherboard, G.Skill RipjawsZ memory, and a certain SilverStone PSU.

Cougar Revises GX-Series PSUs with Newer Fan Design and Flat Cables

COUGAR revised the award-winning 80PLUS Gold certified GX-series Power Supply. The fan used previously was replaced by a proprietary development of COUGAR. From now on, one 140 mm fan COUGAR VORTEX HDB is used. The fans of the VORTEX HDB series have a much longer lifetime (300,000 hours MTBF) and are still much quieter. Bearing noise is through the hydro-dynamic bearings almost impossible.

We have responded. In response to a lot of customer feedback, now modular flat cables are used to achieve a perfect airflow and provide a simpler interface cable assembly. The internal filtering has been optimized for better ripple noise levels and a further increase in efficiency achieved. Special attention was paid to the design of the power supply housing. This is enhanced by the redesigned golden fan grill and the fan comes with its patented VORTEX fan blade design very nicely. The new photo-realistic packaging gives the impression that you had the power supply before opening in your hands.

Colorful Announces Cable-Routing King C2 RTX Chassis

Colorful announces their first RTX (Reversed Technology eXtended) chassis named Cable-Routing King C2. Unlike the ordinary chassis, the RTX likes a upside down structure of ATX. With the RTX structure, it fixes the problem that users usually need an external cable to connect the CPU power cable when they route and hide the cables in the back with a PSU downside chassis. Beside, this structure also guarantees the graphics card better heat radiation.

The dimensions of Cable-Routing King C2 are 468mm x 466mm x 190mm, though it is not as large as Mid-Tower chassis, it provides shorter distance for cable routing. The motherboard need to be reversed installation, so the graphics card will be installed in the upside. Due to the meshes on the top, the efficient transport of fresh air into of the chassis is guaranteed to keep the graphics card cool. The PSU bay has been placed on the bottom with anti-dust mesh, and the distance from PSU to CPU power connector is about 15-20CM, so users don't need to purchase any external cables for cable management and hiding.
