The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X has been discounted down to $294.99 in the US, which actually makes it less expensive than the Ryzen 7 7700 (non-X). Since it launched at $399.99 and later pushed down to $329.99, the latest discount makes it quite a catch. In Europe, the price is still holding at around €320, depending on the region, although it has been seen at €309 earlier.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X is an 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 CPU with 40 MB of cache and a 105 W TDP. It works at 4.5 GHz base and 5.4 GHz Turbo clocks. As spotted by Videocardz, the discount was available on both Amazon and Newegg but the one on Amazon has either been removed or ended and now holds at $339. It is possible that it was a limited deal coming directly from AMD. The next step is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but the price has not budged from $449.

In the wake of its Ryzen 7000X3D series announcement, AMD cut the price of its Ryzen 7 7700X 8-core/16-thread "Zen 4" processor. The Ryzen 7000X3D series is available from February 28, however, the 8-core 7800X3D will only be available from April 6. Despite this, sales prospects of the 7700X could be affected, as the SKU faces cannibalization not just from the 7800X3D, but also the recently launched 65 W Ryzen 7 7700, which has shown decent overclocking potential with motherboard-level power limit unlocks. What's interesting is that the 105 W 7700X at $299 puts it below the 65 W 7700 that launched at $325, which means that the 7700 could get even cheaper. This series of price-cuts and SKU re-positioning could make AMD competitive against Intel's 13th Gen Core i5 SKUs such as the i5-13600 and i5-13500 6P+8E models.

AMD Ryzen 7000-series "Zen 4" desktop processors got their first round of price-cuts on leading retailer Newegg, as the company has a hard time justifying their launch-prices in the wake of Intel's 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" and declining demand in the PC components market. The new pricing sees the top Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core/32-thread chip priced at USD $574, down from $700 (an 18% price-cut). The 12-core/24-thread Ryzen 9 7900X sees its price go down from $550 to $474 (down 14%).

The 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 7700X gets a $50 price-cut sending its price down from $400 to roughly $350. The 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 7600X gets a similar $50 cut, which means the chip can now be had for roughly $250, down from its $300 launch price. All four SKUs face stiff competition from the aggressively priced 13th Gen Core SKUs, which include the i9-13900K, the i7-13700K, and the i5-13600K. Prices of Socket AM5 motherboards are another big put-off as they're a major contributor to platform costs, which is restricted to DDR5 memory. The Intel platform currently includes entry-level chipset options, as well as motherboards with DDR4 support.

Thanks to AMD's efforts to keep the same dimensions between sockets AM4 and AM5, a conversion kit is not necessary.

The flagship models Ryzen 9 7950X and Ryzen 9 7900X require a high-performing cooling solution, such as the water cooler be quiet! Silent Loop 2 360 mm or Silent Loop 2 280 mm. For the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 5 7600X, be quiet! recommends any AM5-compatible be quiet! water cooler or air cooler, except Pure Rock Slim 2 and Shadow Rock LP. The head of the "Zen 4" family is the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, and its single and multi-core performance can do it all. It features 16 cores, 32 threads, 80 MB cache, and up to 5.7 GHz max boost. The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is built with gaming and streaming in mind, with 12 cores, 24 threads, 76 MB cache, and up to 5.6 GHz max boost. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X is the top 8-core processor out there, with 16 threads, 40 MB cache, and up to 5.4 GHz max boost. A user named "orangezone" submitted a CPU-Z validation for an alleged retail AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processor, revealing its key specs that include 5.425 GHz clocks at 1.152 V core-voltage. The submission includes a CPU-Z Bench run for the processor, which puts the single-threaded performance at 774 points, and the multi-threaded performance of the 8-core/16-thread processor at 8381 points. The single-threaded performance is around 20% higher than that of the previous-gen flagship Ryzen 9 5950X, and about 1% faster than the Core i9-12900K ("Golden Cove" P-core). This particular bench run was performed on a Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master motherboard, with DDR5-6400 CL30 memory.

In separate news, BenchLeaks spotted a Geekbench run of the Ryzen 7 7700X (by a different user); on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero and DDR5-6000 memory. Here, the processor scored 2209 points in the single-threaded test, and 14459 points in the multi-threaded one, in Geekbench 5.4.5. This is a surprising result, as it puts the single-threaded performance of the 7700X at about 16% higher than the Core i7-12700K, and a fascinating 2% higher than the 8P+4E "Alder Lake" chip in multi-threaded tests. The 7700X launches in the same market segment as the i7-12700K, when it goes on sale this September 27.

Possible launch SEP pricing of AMD's Ryzen 7000 series "Zen 4" desktop processors leaked to the web by Wccftech, which appear to be similar to those of the Ryzen 5000 "Zen 3" at launch. AMD will launch a slim set of four SKUs in its first round of these processors—the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X (16-core/32-thread), followed by the second-best Ryzen 9 7900X (12-core/24-thread), the Ryzen 7 7700X (8-core/16-thread), and the mid-range Ryzen 5 7600X (6-core/12-thread).

Apparently, the series debuts with the Ryzen 5 7600X at $299, or the same SEP of the Ryzen 5 5600X at launch. The Ryzen 7 7700X launches at $449. The Ryzen 9 7900X comes in at $549, and the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X at $799, which again, is identical to that of the 5950X. Besides processors, motherboard vendors are expected to launch their first Socket AM5 motherboards, debuting with the AMD X670E and X670 chipsets. There's talk of mid-range chipsets such as the B650 and B650E, but we haven't seen any confirmed products show up on motherboard vendors' websites, yet. Pre-launch pricing for the X670E and X670 put them at a significant premium over the current Socket AM4 flagship boards based on the X570. Besides processors and motherboards, we could see announcements from memory vendors launching their first DDR5 memory products to feature AMD EXPO technology.

Alleged Cinebench R23 single-threaded benchmark numbers of the upcoming Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 5 7600X "Zen 4" processors, leaked to the web by Greymon55, and tabulated by VideoCardz, show the two chips to be matching Intel's 12th and 13th Gen Core processors. The 7700X 8-core/16-thread processor is shown scoring anywhere between 2000 to 2099 points (denoted as 20xx), while the 7600X does anywhere between 1900 to 1999 points (19xx). This would see the two easily match/beat the 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" P-cores, with the i9-12900K scoring 2000 points, and the i5-12600K getting 1920 points.

Numbers for the unreleased 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" put Intel at an advantage, with the i9-13900K allegedly scoring 2290 points, and the i5-13600K allegedly 1967 points, but what's important is that the single-thread performance, and application performance of less-parallelized workloads, such as games, could be highly competitive for "Zen 4" against Intel.

The Cinebench R20 score of an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X "Zen 4" processor (possibly engineering sample), was allegedly leaked to the web by "Extreme Player Hall," a video-format tech news published on Bili Bili, as discovered by 9550pro on Twitter. The 8-core/16-thread processor was shown scoring 773 points in the single-thread test, and 7701 points in the multi-threaded one. These numbers put it 25-30 percent faster than the current Ryzen 7 5800X, as pointed out by Greymon55. The multi-threaded performance of this chip is roughly on par with that of the 5900X, which means AMD is overcoming a 50% CPU core-deficit on the backs of higher IPC and memory bandwidth.

The 25% single-core performance gain over the 5800X, if extrapolated to other less-parallized workloads such as gaming, could put this processor about 5-10% ahead of the 5800X3D, and about 4-9% ahead of the Core i9-12900K. The 7700X could face an uphill task measuring up to "Raptor Lake" in multi-threaded tests, given that Intel is doubling down on its Hybrid Architecture, with more E-cores across the lineup. AMD may still have a crack at matching Raptor Lake's gaming performance with future variants that have 3DV Cache.

Someone with access to an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X "Zen 4" processor posted one of the first pictures of an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X "Zen 4" desktop processor installed on a motherboard. The picture shows the 7700X seated in the Socket AM5. The retention brace of the socket only clutches against two side protrusions of the IHS. AMD explained in its recent interview with us that the odd shape of the IHS is to accommodate the various electrical SMDs outside the IHS for better thermal management. With the processor installed, we can see that they're exposed and not covered up by the retention brace. The IHS is taller than the brace, so there will be some passive ventilation for the SMDs. Installing a Ryzen 7000 processor on Socket AM5 involves familiar steps to installing Intel mainstream-desktop processors for the past 15 years. This particular processor has the "D" marking on the IHS, which denotes a non-retail sample (possibly a review sample).

PC Canada has drawn first blood in registering pricing for AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7000 series, the successor to the successful 5000 series. As spotted by renowned leaker momomo_us and shared on Twitter, the specialist retailer based in Canada listed pricing for the Ryzen 7 7600X, 7700X, 7900X and 7950X CPUs. The pricing, if representative, shows an average increase that averages to 10%-12% across SKUs when compared to the previous generation Ryzen. The prices could be placeholders based on the retailers' own expectations, so this information should be taken with a grain of salt (or two).

After conversion from CAD to US dollars, pricing settles at $340 for the Ryzen 7 7600X ($299 for the 5600X at launch, for a 13% premium); $494 for the Ryzen 7 7700X (against the later-released, $299 Ryzen 7 5700X for a 65% premium); $625 for the Ryzen 9 7900X ($549 for the launch Ryzen 9 5900X, for a 13% increase) and finally, the Ryzen 9 7950X for $906 (against the Ryzen 9 5950X's $799 asking price, for another 13% premium).

For those of you that are eagerly awaiting the Ryzen 7000-series CPUs, details of the potential pricing has appeared over at Canadian e-tailer DirectDial. @momomo_us was first to post the details on Twitter, but didn't provide any details of who the e-tailer was, but some sleuthing using the AMD ordering codes soon brought us to DirectDial. The company has listed the all four expected CPU models with pricing and it appears that AMD has decided to stop providing coolers entirely, as none of the four upcoming CPUs appear to be available with a cooler in the box. All the model names ending WOF are retail packaged CPUs and the ones missing WOF at the end of the product number are tray CPUs from what we can tell.

As for the pricing, the Ryzen 5 7600X is listed at CA$435 or about US$340, with the Ryzen 7 7700X coming in at CA$631 or US$494. The Ryzen 9 7900X is CA$798/US$625 and finally the Ryzen 9 7950X is a steep CA$1158/US$907. @momomo_us also found some tray pricing from a different retailer and these CPUs are priced a few bucks cheaper, but we were unable to locate who the retailer is. Note that electronics and computer parts appear to be priced a fair bit higher in Canada than the US on average. As such, these prices should only be taken as an indication of what the retail price in Canada might end up being and not what the actual MSRP will land at, when AMD decides to launch these CPUs. Currently the retail date is expected to be on the 15th of September.
