Sharkoon Announces Vertical Docking Station for SATA Hard Drives

Sharkoon presents two external hard drive docking stations for the USB3.0 interface, in which unobstructed SATA hard drives can be quickly and without effort connected to a computer or notebook. The two Sharkoon Vertical Docking USB3.0 stations, with a choice of either one or two fast-swap bays for SATA hard drives in 3.5 inch format, are equipped internally with a SATA II interface and externally with a USB3.0 SuperSpeed interface.

The disks are easily inserted upright lengthwise into the hard drive bay. A lockable front flap secures the drives against unwanted access while a rear fan helps prevent unwanted heat. The Sharkoon Vertical Docking Single USB3.0 Station with its hard drive bay and 40 mm fan measures 212 x 44 x 129 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 650 g. MSI Announces WindTop AP1612 All-in-One PC

MSI announced the WindTop AP1612 series compact all-in-one (AIO) PC. Built for basic personal computing such as internet access and office applications, the WindTop AP1612 is a 15.6-inch AIO PC driven by Intel Celeron B830 processor ("Sandy Bridge" architecture, dual-core, 1.80 GHz, 2 MB L3 cache). The processor is backed by Intel HM65 Express chipset, 2 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz memory (expandable to 4 GB), and Intel HD graphics. The 15.6-inch LED-backlit LCD screen features 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. It features a resistive touchscreen layer. A 250 GB SATA 3 Gb/s HDD is the only storage device.

The WindTop AP1612 has plenty of network and legacy connectivity. It features two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, an 802.11 b/g/n WLAN interface, 4 in 1 Card Reader (SD+MS+MMC+XD), and a smartcard reader. Legacy connectivity includes a pair of serial COM and parallel LPT interfaces. Its body embeds a 320p web-camera, and 3W stereo speakers. Wired keyboard and mouse come included. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit comes pre-installed. The company did not give out pricing information.

Pioneer Announces BDR-PR1M series Blu-ray Writers

Pioneer introduced a pair of Blu-ray writer drives capable of writing 100 GB Blu-ray XL discs, under the BDR-PR1M series. These include the BDR-PR1M base model, and BDR-PR1MA, which is designed with additional error-correction layers, that minimize writing errors. The drive is capable of write speeds as high as 4X for Blu-ray discs, 6X for DVDs, and 16X for CDs. Single and double-layer Blu-ray discs are read at 8X, BDXLs at 4X, DVDs at 16X, and 40X for CDs. The drives feature standard SATA interface.

QNAP Systems, Inc. today officially launched its latest business-class TS-x69L series Turbo NAS. Century Outs 10-bay 3.5-inch SATA Drive Tower

For those with appetite for terabytes of storage space, Century Japan announced the CRST1035EU3 "Sky Tower" external HDD enclosure. The enclosure stands tall, ten 3.5-inch SATA bays-tall, with lockable caddies. It uses USB 3.0 and eSATA interfaces to communicate with a host, and an external power supply. Cooling the unit is a 140 mm 1400 RPM fan with a maximum noise output of 34 dBA. The enclosure makes the host identify each drive as an independent mass-storage device, as it lacks RAID functions. Measuring 179 x 385 x 330 mm (WxDxH), the enclosure weighs 6 kg (dry-weight). Slated for late-September, it is priced at 36,800 JPY (US $470).

Toshiba Announces Canvio Personal Cloud NAS

Toshiba announced the Canvio Personal Cloud, a small-scale desktop NAS device that comes with pre-installed media, and two variants - 2 TB and 3 TB. It features most common NAS features, including applications for iOS and Android that let you configure the device and access its data over local network or the internet. Internally, the Canvio Personal Cloud appears to use a single 3.5-inch SATA hard drive. It uses gigabit Ethernet as its only network interface, and features a USB 2.0 port that lets you add mass-storage devices and expand its storage. The 2 TB variant starts at US $220, while the 3 TB starts at $250. Market availability is expected to be some time in September.
