SMART Modular Shipping nvNITRO NVMe Accelerator Card with MRAM

SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of SMART Global Holdings, Inc., (NASDAQ: SGH), and a leader in specialty memory, storage and hybrid solutions including memory modules, Flash memory cards and other solid state storage products, today announced that it has begun shipping its nvNITRO Accelerator Card featuring MRAM technology. SMART has partnered with Everspin Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRAM), the world's leading developer and manufacturer of discrete and embedded magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM), to launch the new Spin-transfer Torque MRAM (STT-MRAM)-based nvNITRO Accelerator Card. The nvNITRO is ideally suited for the most demanding transaction logging applications and, along with enhanced performance features, is designed with plug-and-play capability requiring no changes to system hardware, memory reference, bios or file systems.

MRAM technology is byte-addressable and persistent with very low latency, enabling dramatically improved system performance for many applications. The nvNITRO Accelerator Card fully exploits these unique attributes to provide a disruptive solution for industries where transaction processing and data recording performance are critical. For example, nvNITRO can reduce financial application wait times by reducing latency up to 90% over enterprise SSDs. Based on this performance data, SMART and Everspin will jointly target customers in the financial sector including joint demonstrations of nvNITRO performance at The Trading Show in Chicago, May 9-10.

Smart Storage Systems Intros First SAS SSD with 19 nm MLC Flash and 2 TB Capacity

SMART Storage Systems, an innovative enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, today announced the new Optimus Eco, the first Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 6Gb/s SSD on the market to leverage 19 nm multi-level cell (MLC) Flash. Continuing the company's effort to usher in a new era of Flash storage, and anticipating the changing needs of enterprise data centers, SMART Storage Systems' new Optimus Eco SSD represents the industry's best combination of performance, capacity, endurance and cost in an enterprise-class 2.5-inch drive.

Forced to do more with less, many organizations are choosing to build their own hyperscale architectures by combining best-in-class hardware and software to lower costs and meet growing data center demands. In addition, looking to control maintenance costs, data center managers are seeking the highest-capacity drives to pack more capacity into a rack, resulting in the ability to reduce their storage footprint. In fact, Gartner estimates that in 2016 the average capacity of an SSD deployed in enterprise storage and server environments will be more than 1.1 TB. When combined with SSDs that can provide the endurance necessary to support write-intensive applications with cost-effective 19 nm MLC Flash, the result is a dramatic reduction in storage total cost of ownership (TCO).

SMART Storage Systems Announces Industry's First 1.8" SAS SSD

SMART Storage Systems, an innovative enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, today announced the industry's first 1.8" Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) SSD with an extension to its Optimus product line. The new Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD is designed for applications that need industry-leading performance, capacity, endurance, and reliability where space constraints are a concern.

Designed for blade servers, caching and other high-density computing environments which typically have physical space constraints, the Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD delivers random read/write performance of 100K/45K IOPS and sustained read/write speeds of 500/500MB/s using the test methodology defined by the Storage Networking Industry Alliance's (SNIA) Solid State Storage Enterprise Test Specification with consistent performance throughout the five year warranty.

SMART Storage Systems Extends CloudSpeed Line with Two New SSDs

SMART Storage Systems an innovative enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, today announced that the company has extended its CloudSpeed product line with the introduction of two new drives, the CloudSpeed 1000 and CloudSpeed 1000E. While leveraging cost-effective 19 nm consumer-grade multi-level cell (MLC) Flash and enhancing its base endurance with SMART Storage Systems award winning Guardian Technology Platform, the new CloudSpeed SSDs deliver up to 5x better endurance than competing MLC-based SSDs, resulting in the lowest cost per terabyte written (TBW) in the industry. This enables enterprise customers to better control their storage total cost of ownership (TCO).

Industry Survey Identifies Improved SSD Endurance as Key to Enterprise SSD Adoption

SMART Storage Systems, an innovative enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, today announced the results of an international industry survey revealing that 77 percent of respondents believe NAND Flash endurance is the key to widespread SSD adoption in the enterprise. Further underscoring the need for improved endurance of more cost-effective multi-level cell (MLC) NAND Flash, 55 percent of respondents identified cost as the primary barrier to transitioning to an all-Flash enterprise storage environment.

The SMART Storage Systems survey was conducted at the company's exposition booth during the 2012 Flash Memory Summit, VMworld 2012, SNW Fall (U.S.) 2012, and SNW Europe 2012 conferences, collecting 722 responses. Survey participants included IT management and infrastructure professionals, storage architects, and engineering and product managers from the United States and Europe.

SMART Storage Systems Guardian Technology Platform Extended to Support 19nm MLC Flash

SMART Storage Systems, an innovative and rapidly emerging enterprise SSD technology provider, today announced its award-winning Guardian Technology Platform has enabled the use of 19nm multi-level cell (MLC) NAND Flash for enterprise applications. Through support for the smaller, more cost effective 19nm process node, SMART Storage Systems' next generation solid state drives (SSDs) provide enterprise data center and cloud environments with the industry's best combination of performance and endurance, and lower the storage total cost of ownership (TCO) for users.

For years, OEMs and enterprise organizations have looked to SSD performance to meet new throughput requirements being placed on the data center. However, due to the high costs associated with higher endurance enterprise MLC (eMLC) or single-level cell (SLC) SSDs, enterprise data centers frequently turn to consumer-grade MLC SSD solutions. Because they are not designed for mixed workload applications, consumer-grade MLC-based SSDs quickly burnout in enterprise environments. This issue is compounded as Flash geometry continues to get smaller, and native MLC Flash endurance is reduced, increasing organizations TCO due to drive replacement costs. SMART Storage Systems' proprietary Guardian Technology Platform drives additional endurance from consumer-grade MLC Flash through a proprietary suite of enterprise features and endurance enhancement technologies, enabling organizations to avoid the need to replace SSDs prior to the end of the warranty period.

SMART Storage Systems Announces the Optimus Ultra SAS SSD

SMART Storage Systems today announced the Optimus Ultra Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) solid-state drive (SSD). An industry-leading combination of performance, capacity, reliability and endurance, the Optimus Ultra is designed to meet enterprise storage application needs, facilitating broad SSD adoption in enterprise environments.

Designed for the enterprise environment, the Optimus Ultra SAS SSD delivers read/write performance of 100K/60K IOPS and a sustained transfer rate of 1 GB/s in wide port operation, while achieving 25 full random drive writes per day for a period of five years with consumer-grade multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash. This powerful combination of performance and endurance addresses the storage requirements of even the most demanding enterprise customers. The Optimus Ultra SSD is available in usable capacities ranging from 150 GB to 1.2 TB, meaning enterprise organizations and OEMs no longer need to sacrifice capacity to realize the performance gains of solid-state storage.
