Fujitsu and Supermicro Collaborate to Develop Green Arm-Based AI Computing Technology and Liquid-cooled Datacenter Solutions

Fujitsu Limited and Supermicro, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), today announced they will collaborate to establish a long-term strategic engagement in technology and business, to develop and market a platform with Fujitsu's future Arm-based "FUJITSU-MONAKA" processor that is designed for high-performance and energy efficiency and targeted for release in 2027. In addition, the two companies will also collaborate on developing liquid-cooled systems for HPC, Gen AI, and next-generation green data centers.

"Supermicro is excited to collaborate with Fujitsu to deliver state-of-the-art servers and solutions that are high performance, power efficient, and cost-optimized," said Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro. Supermicro Adds New Max-Performance Intel-Based X14 Servers

Supermicro Previews New Max Performance Intel-based X14 Servers

Micron First to Achieve Qualification Sample Milestone to Accelerate Ecosystem Adoption of CXL 2.0 Memory

Micron Technology, a leader in innovative data center solutions, today announced it has achieved its qualification sample milestone for the Micron CZ120 memory expansion modules using Compute Express Link (CXL). Supermicro Launches MicroCloud Nodes, Mainstream Racks, and Towers Based on AMD EPYC 4004

Samsung Introduces "Petabyte SSD as a Service" at GTC 2024, "Petascale" Servers Showcased

Leaked Samsung PBSSD presentation material popped up online a couple of days prior to the kick-off day of NVIDIA's GTC 2024 conference (March 18)—reports (at the time) jumped on the potential introduction of a "petabyte (PB)-level SSD solution," alongside an enterprise subscription service for the US market. Tom's Hardware took the time to investigate this matter—in-person—on the showroom floor up in San Jose, California. It turns out that interpretations of pre-event information were slightly off—according to on-site investigations: "despite the name, PBSSD is not a petabyte-scale solid-state drive (Samsung's highest-capacity drive can store circa 240 TB), but rather a 'petascale' storage system that can scale-out all-flash storage capacity to petabytes."

Samsung showcased a Supermicro Petascale server design, but a lone unit is nowhere near capable of providing a petabyte of storage—the Tom's Hardware reporter found out that the demonstration model housed: "sixteen 15.36 TB SSDs, so for now the whole 1U unit can only pack up to 245.76 TB of 3D NAND storage (which is pretty far from a petabyte), so four of such units will be needed to store a petabyte of data." Company representatives also had another Supermicro product at their booth: "(an) H13 all-flash petascale system with CXL support that can house eight E3.S SSDs (with) four front-loading E3.S CXL bays for memory expansion."

Samsung & Vodafone "Open RAN Ecosystem" Bolstered by AMD EPYC 8004 Series

Samsung Electronics and Vodafone, in collaboration with AMD, today announced that the three companies have successfully demonstrated an end-to-end call with the latest AMD processors enabling Open RAN technology, a first for the industry. This joint achievement represents the companies' technical leadership in enriching the Open RAN ecosystem throughout the industry. Conducted in Samsung's R&D lab in Korea, the first call was completed using Samsung's versatile, O-RAN-compliant, virtualized RAN (vRAN) software, powered by AMD EPYC 8004 Series processors on Supermicro's Telco/Edge servers, supported by Wind River Studio Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform. Micron Announces High-Capacity 96 GB DDR5-4800 RDIMMs

Micron Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq: MU) today announced volume production availability of high-capacity 96 GB DDR5 RDIMMs in speeds up to 4800MT/s, which have double the bandwidth compared to DDR4 memory. By unlocking the next level of monolithic technology, the integration of Micron's high-density memory solutions empowers artificial intelligence (AI) and in-memory database workloads and eliminates the need for costly die stacking that also adds latency. Supermicro Announces New Eight- and Four-Socket 4th Gen Intel Xeon Servers

Supermicro, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a Total IT Solution Provider for Cloud, AI/ML, Storage, and 5G/Edge, is introducing the most powerful server in its lineup for large-scale database and enterprise applications. The Multi-Processor product line includes the 8-socket server, ideal for in-memory databases requiring up to 480 cores and 32 TB of DDR5 memory for maximum performance. Intel Accelerates 5G Leadership with New Products

For more than a decade, Intel and its partners have been on a mission to virtualize the world's networks, from the core to the RAN (radio access network) and out to the edge, moving them from fixed-function hardware onto programmable, software-defined platforms, making networks more agile while driving down their complexity and cost.

Now operators are looking to cross the next chasm in delivering cloud-native functionality for automating, managing and responding to an increasingly diverse mix of data and services, providing organizations with the intelligence needed at the edge of their operations. Today, Intel announced a range of products and solutions driving this transition and broad industry support from leading operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and independent software vendors (ISVs).

Intel Finally Reveals its Software Defined Silicon as Intel On Demand

Back in September 2021, reports about Intel working on something called SDSi or software defined silicon, started to appear. Now, over a year later, the company has finally launched its SDSi products under the Intel On Demand branding. Back then, we speculated about what features Intel would put behind a paywall and although we were somewhat off track, Intel has put some specific "instructions" behind the paywall on the supported Xeon processors. Specifically, some CPUs will have Quick Assist, Dynamic Load Balancer and Data Streaming Accelerator available as an On Demand feature. Additionally, Intel is also putting its Software Guard Extensions and In-Memory Analytics Accelerator behind the same pay wall.

It appears that these features will be offered as-a-service offering from some of Intel's service partners, but there's also a "one-time activation of select CPU accelerators and security features" according to the Intel On Demand website. It's unclear which Xeon SKUs will get Intel On Demand, but according to The Register, it'll be the upcoming Sapphire Rapids based Xeon processors which should be the first parts affected. Intel has listed partners like HP, Lenovo and SuperMicro, among others, that are involved with the Intel On Demand program. It will still be possible to buy next gen Xeon CPUs that are fully feature enabled like today, but it's unclear if the Intel On Demand Xeon SKUs will offer some kind of cost benefits to companies that don't need the additional features that are behind the paywall.

Supermicro continues to use its Building Block Solutions approach to deliver state-of-the-art and secure systems for the most demanding AI, Cloud, and 5G Edge requirements. The systems support high-performance CPUs and DDR5 memory with up to 2X the performance and capacities up to 512 GB DIMMs and PCIe 5.0, which doubles I/O bandwidth. Intel Xeon CPU Max Series CPUs (formerly codenamed Sapphire Rapids HBM High Bandwidth Memory (HBM)) is also available on a range of Supermicro X13 systems. In addition, support for high ambient temperature environments at up to 40° C (104° F), with servers designed for air and liquid cooling for optimal efficiency, are rack-scale optimized with open industry standard designs and improved security and manageability.

Supermicro Expands Its NVIDIA-Certified Server Portfolio with New NVIDIA H100 Optimized GPU Systems

Supermicro Launches Multi-GPU Cloud Gaming Solutions Based on Intel Arctic Sound-M

Super Micro Computer, Inc., a global leader in enterprise computing, storage, networking, and green computing technology, is announcing future Total IT Solutions for availability with Android Cloud Gaming and Media Processing & Delivery. These new solutions will incorporate the Intel Data Center GPU, codenamed Arctic Sound-M, and will be supported on several Supermicro servers. Supermicro solutions that will contain the Intel Data Center GPUs codenamed Arctic Sound-M, include the 4U 10x GPU server for transcoding and media delivery, the Supermicro BigTwin system with up to eight Intel Data Center GPUs, codenamed Arctic Sound-M in 2U for media processing applications, the Supermicro CloudDC server for edge AI inferencing, and the Supermicro 2U 2-Node server with three Intel Data Center GPUs, codenamed Arctic Sound-M per node, optimized for cloud gaming. Additional systems will be made available later this year.
