Gedonia 2 Launched into Steam Early Access

The game is out now! Hello everyone! It's hard to believe, but the game is now available on Steam Early Access! After two years of hard work, me and my team are incredibly excited for all of you to finally give this game a try. We poured our hearts and souls into this project, and I can confidently say that this is the best and most ambitious game I've ever produced in 13 years of my game development journey!

But this is just the first step for the long road of Early Access for Gedonia 2. We will constantly improve our game based on your feedback and suggestions, and will try to fully realize our ambitious vision. Right now the game is in fairly solid state, based on our internal testing, but there still might be some bugs and issues in there, especially with multiplayer, which could produce some disconnects and other bugs. We will try to find and fix all of them in the next weeks post launch. Thank you all for your support over these years, and please, leave your feedback, we will read all of it!

The Last of Us Part II Remastered Patched to v1.1 - Improves Performance & Addresses Stability Issues

Hey everyone, Patch 1.1 is out now for The Last of Us Part II Remastered! This update fixes various crashes, and we've addressed long stalls that could occur in some locations. We've also fixed several bugs related to the user interface and ultrawide cinematics. Check out the patch notes below for more details. We are aware of player reports of autosave issues and are actively working on a fix.

Our investigation shows that issues can occur when OneDrive or similar cloud services block the save file from being written. As a workaround, we suggest that you pause OneDrive while playing the game: Right-click the OneDrive icon in the Windows taskbar, click the gear icon and Pause sync. The teams at Nixxes and Naughty Dog are keeping a close eye on player feedback and crash reports and are working on additional updates with more bug fixes and improvements. Thank you all for playing The Last of Us Part II on PC and sharing your feedback with us!

Redesigned Q-Release Slim System Incoming - ASUS Confirms Debut on "New X870 Motherboards"

Over a week ago, ASUS "quietly" unveiled a revamped Q-Release Slim mechanism—eagle-eyed hardware media outlet—Uniko's Hardware—spotted this revised quick release PCIe system on a freshly detailed premium ROG CROSSHAIR X870E APEX motherboard model. Wider press reportage jumped on the manufacturer's mixed bag of official responses; regarding reported damage inflicted by a "problematic" design. The ASUS North American office downplayed the severity of this matter, while colleagues in China launched a fairly comprehensive compensation program. According to VideoCardz, the latter organization has confirmed—as of last week—that a problem-free/improved Q-Release Slim system is on the way.

On Monday, Tweakers divulged its direct communication with ASUS—a spokesperson answered the Dutch site's query: "yes, a change has been made to the Q-Release Slim system for new X870 motherboards. Based on user feedback, we have modified the PCIe slot for the Q-Release Slim system, including removing a metal component to reduce the possibility of damage to the video card." The company representative noted that newly introduced/attached stickers will inform users about "correct system usage." Based on the aforementioned ASUS statement, Tweakers reported: "that both the original and revised versions of the system have been extensively tested and that users should study the included documentation to use the Q-Release Slim system properly. According to the manufacturer, both versions of the technology meet 'industry standards for wear resistance'." That last point suggests that ASUS will not be issuing a wide recall of currently released boards that feature original Q-Release Slim mechanisms.

GIGABYTE Launches New Servers Using Intel Xeon 6700 & 6500-series Processors and Provides Updates for Servers Using Xeon 6300-series

Giga Computing, a subsidiary of GIGABYTE and an industry leader in generative AI servers and advanced cooling technologies, today announced new GIGABYTE rack servers that are optimized for Intel Xeon 6700/6500-series processors with up to 136 PCIe 5.0 lanes. Additionally, GIGABYTE enterprise products support new Intel Xeon 6700/6500-series with P-cores and 6300-series.

New Servers Supporting Platform with Up to 136 PCIe Lanes
The new Intel Xeon 6700 and 6500-series have processor SKUs that are designed to support either up to 136 PCIe 5.0 lanes (referred to as R1S) or 88 PCIe lanes. Optimized for R1S processors, the new GIGABYTE rack servers (R264-SG2, R264-SG3, R264-SG5, R164-SG5, R164-SG6) make use of the additional PCIe lanes for diverse storage options, dual-slot GPUs, and additional expansion slots including support for OCP NIC 3.0. These servers will be deployed in applications such as storage, telecom, edge, and more. The new servers support Intel Xeon 6 processors using LGA 4710; however, they are further optimized to take advantage of the additional PCIe lanes when compared to other Intel Xeon 6 processors. A new server that exemplifies this advantage, the R264-SG5 supports up to twenty-eight E3.S Gen 5 NVMe drives, yet it has support for a dual-slot (Gen 5 x16) GPU.

Intel Updates Linux Driver with Three Unannounced Battlemage PCI IDs

Intel's relatively new lineup of Arc B-series "Battlemage" desktop graphics cards consists of B580 and B570 GPUs—these affordable models have been warmly welcomed by reviewers and customers alike. PC hardware enthusiasts—with larger wallets—will be pondering over possible future launches of mid-tier or higher-end SKUs. Industry insiders have not picked up on much chatter regarding possible successors to Team Blue's mid-range Arc "Alchemist" A770 and A750 GPUs. The speculation machine has been fired up again, following the appearance of three new "Battlemage" PC IDs. Intel's Linux kernel has been updated with these new additions—as discovered by Tomasz Gawroński (aka GawroskiT), earlier today.

A brief sentence outlines "3 new PCI IDs for BMG," with no further or follow-up information included. Several industry watchdogs believe that Intel's graphics hardware division has moved on from creating new Xe2 "Battlemage" products—Team Blue representatives have officially admitted that their Xe3 "Celestial" architecture is complete, and its engineers have already started work on the Xe4 "Druid" GPU IP. Instead, the three new identifiers could be linked to a late December leak. At the time, Quantum Bits claimed that Arc B580 variants with larger pools of VRAM were in the pipeline—these "Arc Pro" cards are supposedly workstation-oriented models. Insiders reckon that a product launch is planned for later in 2025.

Riot Games Teases New Valorant Games and Unreal Engine 5 Port With Future Graphics Updates

Epic Games kicked off the Unreal Fest in Seattle earlier this week with a keynote that revealed some interesting details about the company's marketing and publication strategies going forward. Also during that same keynote, Riot Games executive producer, Anna Donlon, teased that there will be more "playable experiences" coming to the "Valorant universe."

While Donlon was deliberately vague about any upcoming Valorant-adjacent games currently in development, she was a little more candid about Valorant's Unreal Engine 5 update, admitting that limitations in Unreal Engine 4.27—Valorant's current underpinnings—were what prompted the move to UE5 in the first place. However, a shift to Unreal Engine 5 will not immediately change how the game performs, feels, or looks.

Goodbye to Minecraft Votes, New Update Structure

Mojang has revealed that the Minecraft's annual mob vote (a feature that allows players to pick the next creature added to the game) tradition is coming to an end as part of a new game update structure, following TikTok war propaganda-inspired posters by players fed-up with the tradition.

On September 9, via a post on its blog, Mojang announced that its annual news livestream, Minecraft Live, is discarding the mob vote feature and is now being split up into several smaller, more-focused broadcasts, which will occur twice a year. Mojang also revealed that free content updates would be released more often, abandoning the traditional annual larger updates and sticking to smaller updates like this year's Armored Paws update.

Helldiver 2 Dev Team Releases First Batch of Balance Fixes

We recently released a patch containing our first round of balance changes to Helldivers 2 and our Head of Product Testing has some valuable insight into our philosophies and practices when it comes to balancing. Hello everyone! My name is Patrik Lasota, I was the designer on the first Helldivers and am currently Head of Product Testing at Arrowhead. A bit of a grandiose title, but what it means in this context is that I'm responsible for how Arrowhead listens to feedback and balances its games. I'd like to talk about the changes we made in this patch and why.

Primary weapons
First I'd like to speak to the general power of primary weapons. Many have commented that they aren't powerful enough and are unable to deal with all the enemies either by the amount of ammunition required or their raw DPS. This is very much intentional, you need to rely on your Stratagems, and the Stratagems of your team to deal with all the enemies effectively. Either by Eagle Airstrikes, Orbitals, Support Weapons, or Turrets, some of your loadout/team should be tailoring their loadout to killing the weaker stuff more efficiently. This doesn't mean that your primary weapon shouldn't feel good to use, but please understand that it is primary only in the sense that it's something you always spawn with.

MSI Confirms Lack of Firmware Updates for Incoming MAG QD-OLED Monitors

MSI is preparing to launch its new generation of MPG and MAG series QD-OLED gaming monitors—early 2024 promotional activity included a couple of pre-launch initiatives. The company's marketing division is attempting to get into good graces with the gaming community—we have already witnessed the introduction of a 3-year warranty for OLED panel product, and permanent price cuts planned for launch day. It is highly probable that MSI is trying to attract customers away from ASUS ROG—the MPG 321URX ($949.99, formerly $1199) will be going up against the Swift OLED PG32UCDM ($1299).

The "MSI_Darutohne" Reddit account reached out to potential (and well heeled) customers on a popular premium gaming monitor discussion community: "Hello r/OLED_Gaming! Our QD-OLED monitors are finally rolling out, and we'd love to clarify any misconceptions and make sure everyone here is making an informed purchase! Let's get started with the Six NEW QD-OLED monitors. You may find them all listed here." Many members thanked MSI for the comprehensive product rundowns and answering of questions/queries, but one participant—Mars0813—took issue with the MAG 321UPX model's apparent inability to receive software/firmware updates. MSI_Darutohne responded and confirmed: "You are correct. The MAG 321UPX QD-OLED will NOT support software updates." Subsequent repliers stated that they would cancel their pre-orders, or request refunds. Jamartty45 stated: "Appreciate you for clarifying, but I purchased this yesterday and it will be returned as soon as it gets to my door. A $900 monitor that doesn't support software updates is absurd." The more expensive MPG tier appears to be the best route for gamers who enjoy a little bit of future-proofing and bug fixing.

EA Celebrates "Need for Speed" 30th Anniversary with Y2 "NFS: Unbound" Roadmap

Surprise! We're still here, and not just here - we have a whole year's worth of content coming to you! NFS turns 30 this year, and with that huge legacy, we couldn't stand idle. However, this year will be a bit different from the previous one. Because here's the thing—the NFS legacy signifies different things to each and every one of you. Some of you were there at the start of it all on Road and Track. Some of you will remember taking on the Eastsiders in Olympic City or smashing your way through the Blacklist in Rockport. Or you might have started playing more recently. Hustling by day and risking it all by night in Palm City. No matter your memory, we all have a shared love of NFS, and we want to build new memories over the next 12 months.

But, we'll be honest and admit we can't build everything everyone wants right now, but we can decide together what NFS should be in the future. Our vision is that through our second year of live service, you can, for the first time, begin to play the ultimate NFS experience in one place. Your feedback and gameplay will help shape the future of this iconic franchise. As you play, we will be listening, observing and reacting to the things you want to see and those you don't. It's an approach that we're calling Kaizen.

Steam to Curate Game Support for DualShock & DualSense Controllers

The Steam store and desktop client will soon be able to help players find games that support DualSense or DualShock controllers. If your game supports either of these devices, you can now enter that information in the Steamworks "edit store" section for your app. Steamworks has a new controller-support questionnaire for developers to better describe the devices supported by the game.

If your game plays well with a DualShock or DualSense Controller (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 respectively), you can now specify that information within Steamworks. This is the first step toward helping players find games that support the most commonly-used PC video game controllers. Starting in October, we'll show this information to players in the Steam store and Steam desktop client. Here are more details on this new level of support.
