WDC Launches New Line of GreenPower AV Hard Drives

Drawing on its expertise as a leading supplier to major consumer electronics and surveillance manufacturers worldwide, Western Digital Corp. has designed its new GreenPower (GP) version of its WD AV hard drives with technologies that provide cooler and quieter operation and lower power consumption. WD's GreenPower family of hard drives for desktop, enterprise and audio video applications reduces power consumption by as much as 40 percent over standard drives in their respective classes. The new WD AV-GP family of drives offers capacities of 500 gigabytes (GB), 750 GB and one terabyte (TB), and is perfect for audio video applications such as DVRs (digital video recorders), as well as surveillance video recording.

A member at Reg Hardware has reported that Western Digital's 1TB My Book World Edition remote-access hard drive does not share media files over network connections. Which is, the entire point behind the World Edition lineup of hard disk drives.
"Due to unverifiable media license authentication, the most common audio and video file types cannot be shared with different users using WD Anywhere Access."
Western Digital's list of banned file types encompasses over 35 extensions. This includes AAC, MP3, AVI, DivX, WMV, and Quicktime files. And why not - Windows TMP files too.

WD Shipping in Volume Caviar GREENPOWER 500GB Hard Drives
