Cisco Reports Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2012 Earnings

Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking that transforms how people connect, communicate and collaborate, today reported its fourth quarter and fiscal year results for the period ended July 28, 2012. Cisco reported fourth quarter net sales of $11.7 billion, net income on a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis of $1.9 billion or $0.36 per share, and non-GAAP net income of $2.5 billion or $0.47 per share.

"As a result of our strong performance, continued execution on our plan to deliver profitable growth, and commitment to shareholders, for the full fiscal year, we delivered revenue growth of 7% as well as a record year in revenue and earnings per share," stated Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers.

Buffalo Unveils 500 GB MiniStation Air Wireless Hard Drive

Buffalo Japan unveiled the MiniStation Air 500 GB wireless portable hard drive (model: HDW-P500U3). The drive combines 802.11 b/g/n (up to 150 Mbps) wireless data connectivity with USB 3.0 SuperSpeed (5 GT/s) wired data+power connectivity. When in wireless mode, the drive powers itself using an in-built 2,860 mAh lithium-ion battery, which can keep it ticking for up to 4.5 hours before needing a recharge.

New Solution For ISPs Makes Home Wi-Fi Network Accessible From Anywhere

Anyfi Networks today announced the general availability of their flagship Wi-Fi mobility solution for Internet service providers, Anyfi.net Simple. "We call it Simple because it's so simple to use: there is absolutely nothing the subscriber needs to do to connect on the go, not even the first time. It's like having your home Wi-Fi network follow you around wherever you go" said Johan Almbladh, CTO of Anyfi Networks. "There is no software to install on the device and no manual registration process. If you have connected your device to Wi-Fi at home it will connect automatically whenever you are close to any one of the ISPs residential gateways."

The trick is combining Wi-Fi with IP, Internet Protocol, to break the tie between logical network and physical access point, effectively letting every subscriber access their own home Wi-Fi remotely, through any residential gateway in the ISPs network.

QNAP Expands its Turbo NAS Peripherals Compatibility List

MediaTek First to Bring 802.11ac 1T1R "Dual Band Concurrent" Home Networks

MediaTek Inc., a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, announced today the world's first 1T1R 802.11ac dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi router and dongle solutions. MT7620 + MT7610E and MT7610U provide the mass market with 1T1R 802.11ac router and dongle to enable high quality data transmission, voice and video applications in connected homes. ASUS Working on World's First Notebook with 802.11ac

According to Broadcom vice-president Michael Hurlston, the upcoming ASUS Republic of Gamers G75VW will be the world's first notebook PC with an integrated 802.11ac WLAN adapter. It will be the "world's first 5G Wi-Fi laptop," according to Hurlston. Yet to be released to the market, the G75VW will be equipped with a Broadcom-made 802.11ac adapter, although its product page currently only mentions 802.11n support. The notebook will pack dual-antennae MIMO support, and will be capable of theoretical network speeds in the 800 to 850 Mbps range. Hurlston made this statement at the Computex 2012 company booth.

Qualcomm Atheros Demonstrates Portfolio of 802.11ac Solutions for Mobile Computing

Qualcomm Atheros Inc., the networking and connectivity subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, today at COMPUTEX TAIPEI demonstrated the industry's first solutions that integrate 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity for tablets and notebook computers.
