Since its summer 2023 launch, Apple's pricey Vision Pro mixed reality headset has not exactly attracted a mainstream audience. Roughly a year later, rumors of a (then) recently canceled successor appeared online—insiders posited that company engineers had pivoted onto the development of a cheaper alternative model. Vision Pro "Version 1.0" arrived with an intimidating $3499 price tag; thus eliminating interest from a wide swath of potential AR/VR headset enthusiast customers. Industry insiders reckon that Apple had "abruptly reduced production" of the current-gen model last October, with further whispers suggesting a complete cessation of manufacturing activities by the end of 2024. Yesterday, an ITHome article cited compelling claims made by supply chain insiders—the initiation of mass production for a speculated second generation "Apple XR/Vision Pro" device.

The online report stated that: "multiple independent sources (have) confirmed that the panels, shells and other key components of the second-generation Apple XR headset are already in production." Very specific leaked information indicates Lens Technology being the exclusive supplier of glass panel pieces, and Changying Precision tasked with the making of the next-gen model's casing. Additionally, several contract circuit manufacturers are supposedly "rushing to complete orders." Secretive figures posit that Apple will release its sequel mixed reality headset later on in 2025. Differing "expert opinions" have not determined whether this incoming set of fancy goggles will be the predicted "cheaper" model, or a proper "M5 SoC-powered" successor.

Out of all the screens that I have on hand for gaming—monitors, televisions, tablets, smartphones, even a portable projector—none feel quite as decadent as the ASUS AirVision M1. When I lean back into the overstuffed pillows of my couch, put my feet up on the chaise longue, and plug these smart glasses into my ROG Ally, I feel like I'm enjoying a luxury that would make Hedonismbot blush. These smart glasses put my game up on a giant virtual screen, right in front of my eyes at the perfect viewing angle. Watching a television from such a position would either involve a ceiling mount or crick in my neck, but the AirVision M1 gives me a big-screen gaming experience in a lightweight package that works whether I'm lounging on the couch, lying in bed, or leaning back in my gaming chair.

Gaming isn't the only trick up the AirVision M1's sleeve. It's a productivity champ, too, adding multiple virtual screens to my on-the-go setup and keeping prying eyes from looking over my shoulder as I get some work done at the coffee shop. It's the lie-in-bed-and-binge-watch-Parks-and-Recreation device of my dreams. It even makes it tolerable to stay entertained and productive during long flights. Versatile, lightweight, and easy to use, the AirVision M1 slipped into my digital life as easily as it slips into my laptop bag.

We spotted via IT Home a fresh PC case just released by GALAX under the name "Metal Master Dark Guard", a new case that works with both ATX and microATX (back connectors supported) motherboards. The case keeps the look of the Metal Master series, with clean lines and a nice beveled design. It also has a big tempered glass side panel that gives you a clear view of internal components. The case internal design shows special attention to cooling, as GALAX mentions that they put it through multiple airflow tests. It can fit up to eight 120 or 140 mm fans, and one 240/260/280 mm radiator which makes it great for high-end gaming PCs. The design has a smart air duct system to keep things cool, and there's plenty of room inside to make cable management easy. One cool thing about the design is that the USB 3.0, and Type-C connectors are placed at the front-bottom. This helps keep the overall look clean by hiding cables away from the user's eyes while keeping the airflow clean.

The case can fit the latest hardware components, including the new RTX 50 series graphics cards or any graphic card up to 400 mm long, and standard power supplies. GALAX has priced the Metal Master Dark Guard at 249 yuan about $35, at least that's the price on Asian markets. If it reaches Western markets around $50 it can be considered a viable option for those on a tight budget.

HTC Corp. and Google LLC announced today a definitive agreement under which HTC will receive US$250 million in cash from Google, and certain HTC employees from its XR team will join Google. As part of the transaction, Google will receive a non-exclusive license for HTC's XR intellectual property (IP). Chinese giant TCL has officially begun mass production of inkjet-printed OLED displays. The company's subsidiary, TCL CSOT, is leading this initiative with its first product: a 21.6-inch 4K UHD panel designed for professional monitors. The new display boasts a 204 pixels per inch density and coverage of 99% of the DCI-P3 color space. With a maximum brightness of 350 cd/m², the panel is suited for professional applications, with TCL CSOT targeting the medical sector. Additionally, the firm advertises more than 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Using the leftovers from JOLED's closure, a Japanese venture that previously attempted similar technology but filed for bankruptcy in 2023, TCL's approach utilizes Gen 5.5 glass substrates measuring 1,300 × 1,500 mm. Notably, it incorporates other materials from the former Japanese pioneer.

Printed OLED technology promises more cost-effective display production compared to traditional methods. Unlike traditional evaporation methods in OLED production that use shadow masks and waste significant amounts of material, inkjet OLED printing allows for precise deposition of organic materials directly onto substrates. This maskless process not only reduces material waste but also minimizes contamination risks, which is crucial given OLEDs' sensitivity to environmental factors. The choice of starting with medical monitors mirrors JOLED's initial strategy from 2017, when they launched a similar 21.6-inch 4K panel for the same market segment. The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is driving demand for integrated circuits (ICs) for data centers. In the field of advanced packaging, including chiplets, the size of packages is increasing with the miniaturization of wiring patterns.
