1MORE Capsule Dual Driver In-ears Review

Performance

The 1MORE Capsule in-ear headphones are aimed at the casual user on the go, and the tuning is definitely on the slightly fun side of the spectrum because of its somewhat elevated highs and lows, which makes most contemporary music a little more entertaining.

Bass-wise, the Capsule is by no means a monster. The bass is quite well behaved and has good extension, which is as you would expect from a set of in-ears. It does go a little soft when it dips below 80 Hz, and despite being elevated from 80 Hz and up, does not seem super punchy or overpowering. The unevenness of the low end detracts from the listening experience. Here, the similarly priced HiFiMAN RE-400 pulls ahead and delivers slightly less bass, but with greater linearity.

The midrange is quite pleasant to listen to, but the tuning is far from mainstream. The upper midrange at around 2 kHz is elevated, and leading up to it are a few peaks. Sibilance seems to be a real issue here, which is not uncommon with mid-end in-ears. In comparison, the RE-400 can sound sibilant, but only on brighter recordings, and the Capsule manages to bring it out on tracks mastered with less of an emphasis on the upper midrange.

Ergonomics-wise, the Capsule is small enough to work in even the smallest of ears. The problem comes when you try to use it with medium or large ears. The extra distance between the ear canal's opening and the tragic notch makes the Capsule sit and fit quite poorly. The strain relief digs into the bottom of the anti tragus, which makes for a less than pleasant fit. The crude fix is to slide the tip forward on the stem to move the earphone shells further away from the ear canal's entrance. This is a temporary fix as the tips tend to creep back into their intended position. This could also influence the sound quality as it effectively makes the volume toward the front of the driver quite a bit larger.

Noise attenuation is on par with the RE-400 and other dynamic driver in-ears in the price range. The microphone's sound quality is pretty good, and its position on the cable works well.
