  • Low-quality caps on the secondary side
  • No MOV in the transient filter
  • No over temperature protection
  • Noisy
  • Hold-up time below 17 ms
  • Hold-up time of power ok signal below 16 ms
  • Poor transient response at 5 V and 3.3 V
  • 5VSB rail inefficient
  • Non-modular cable design
  • Two EPS connectors on the same cable
  • PCIe splitter can be dangerous

The AQIRYS Pulsar LS White has a nice exterior design with matching white, fixed cables that make it stand out from the crowd. However, a nice exterior is most definitely not enough to provide an edge. Although I have seen some good stuff from SANR, or Casecom, the Pulsar LS White doesn't meet my expectations. The two major design flaws are the lack of an MOV and no over temperature protection (OTP). Both are important for a PSU and shouldn't be left out on even older platforms like this one. To lower the production cost, AQIRYS chose a double-forward design that tries to keep up with modern requirements by using a pair of DC-DC converters to generate the minor rails, which is clearly not enough. The +12 V rail performed decently in the transient response tests, but both minor rails deviate greatly, with the 3.3 V rail failing both tests.

It is tough to find good caps at reasonable prices nowadays, so SANR went with an unknown brand for the electrolytic caps on the secondary side. This can create substantial reliability problems in the long run, so I am impressed by the six-year warranty AQIRYS decided on for this PSU. I wouldn't dare offer more than 2–3 years at most if I were in AQIRYS's shoes. The 230 V only input will stress the platform less by increasing efficiency and reducing internal temperatures, but six years is still too long for the caps in this power supply. I guess time will tell whether AQIRYS did well to provide such a long warranty.

Given the poor overall performance and issues mentioned above, I wouldn't recommend this power supply even if looking for a white PSU to match a white chassis. Way more than a nice exterior is needed when it comes to PSUs. Units like the Corsair CX750M, XPG Pylon 750, and Thermaltake Smart BM2 750 offer considerably higher performance and increased reliability, so I would invest a bit more to get one of those rather than the Pulsar LS White 750. I hope to see better products from this brand soon. If they heed my suggestions, their next PSU will perform better.
