ASRock X99 Taichi (with Broadwell-E) Review

The Board - Layout

There is no mistaking the aesthetic of ASRock's X99 Taichi. A huge white set of gears over its slots, the rear of the board is fairly simple and completely black.

There are a total of eight DIMM slots on the ASRock X99 Taichi; four on either side. The slots are rated to support DIMMs of up to 3200 MHz in speed, and more is possible with extensive tweaking.

There are three PCIe x16 slots here for you, along with two PCIe x1 slots. I'd normally also show you the rear backplate, but a picture of the perfectly labeled cover does a much better job of showing you what ports are available.

There are two Ultra M.2 ports here, featuring 32 Gb/s connectivity. The lower port will support extended 110mm M.2 devices.

There are two sets of SATA ports; most of these are on the board's right edge, angled at 90 degrees, which is as expected, but there are two other such ports just below the board's right DIMM slots.

The board's bottom edge has audio header and BIOS chips on one side, with the other side holding USB and front-panel headers.
