ASRock's Z270 Extreme4 is a good, stable platform for an average user wanting to get the most out of what a platform offers. You'll find all the benefits of Intel's latest here, as well as decent support for daily overclocking for you to push your new high-clocking Kaby Lake to the limit and not worry about it. It is everything most enthusiasts need, and none of the things you don't. OK, well, some of you don't want LEDs, but you'll have a hard time NOT getting those these days. At least here you can rest easy knowing that should you not like LEDs, you can turn them off in the BIOS.

Although this is one of our first looks at Kaby Lake, I can understand how some users aren't going to be all that interested in this platform. The CPUs themselves aren't all that new. They just clock a bit higher, both out of the box and when you overclock. Designing a board to properly support everything these CPUs have to offer is truly what's at consideration here, and at that, ASRock has done an excellent job, even meeting my expectations. If you have a CPU capable of 5 GHz, and those should be fairly common it seems, all you need to do is make a couple changes in BIOS, and you are ready to go. No extensive tweaking needed. 3866 MHz on two DIMMs? While not officially supported by this product, it can be done as well, and just as easily as clocking up the CPU; you just need parts that are good enough.

ASRock has long been a brand in the market that meets enthusiast consumer needs, and here, they have done it again, showing they are truly good at what they do. The audio is great and performance is good, too, and you've got M.2 support and USB 3.1 Type-C, a good BIOS, and easy overclocking. A simple aesthetic and some flashy LEDs you can turn off if you don't want them. Intel LAN and an HB SLI bridge in the box. What more can you ask for?
