Overclocking
Overclocking with the ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX was significantly better compared to most other Intel Z77 Express products I've tested so far, with a setting of just 1.18 V in BIOS needed to bring my 3770K to stability at 4.6 GHz. Memory clocking, using XMP, worked flawlessly, booting right in with 2400 MHz like it was no big deal. I recorded a VRM power consumption of 96 W while running stability testing, less power draw than what I had expected.
Cinebench provides a substantial performance increase when overclocked, something that resounds true through the entire series of Intel-based products. The ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX wasn't the best performer, with almost last place, a sure sign that the BIOS could use some updating.
SuperPi 32m results were, again, average for the ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX.
WPrime 1024M numbers were just, um, well they were outright horrid.
We fired up CodeMaster's F1 2010 for a bit of 3D action, and to be impressed with the performance boost offered, compared to the other products, but the ASUS Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX performed poorly. This product is clearly still in its early days and could use some tweaking. This is very much sub-par for what I expect from ASUS.
Again, in Shogun2, the ASUS Maximus V Formula failed to deliver.
