A Closer Look

The Shadow Rock LP doesn't have the same sleek black look as the Dark Rock series, leaving the popular dark nickel-plating behind. For cost saving reasons, you will see regular copper heatpipes and aluminum fins instead. That doesn't mean quality has diminished, however, as a top plate and heatpipe caps are still used.

The cooler is comprised of two fin stacks. The top stack is made up of fifty-four aluminum fins while the bottom stack features 34 aluminum fins. Heat is transferred from the base to the fins via four Ø6 mm heatpipes. As such, no crazy breakthroughs or unique design elements are used—this is just a high quality low-profile heatsink.

The top of the cooler has a solid aluminum top plate with be quiet!'s extruded logo that easily catches one's attention in the light. The heatpipes themselves have aluminum caps, which adds to the cooler's quality feel and keeps appearances clean. Two of the heatpipes are in a U-shape, which allows them to transfer heat to both fin stacks, while the remaining two heatpipes only transfer heat to the top fin stack.

No mirror shine finish to be found, or anything close to it for that matter, the base has a near-matte finish. Machining marks are also visible. The Shadow Rock LP's copper base could use a little love that much is certain.

The fan be quiet! provides measures in at 120 mm x 120 mm x 25 mm and belongs to the Pure Wings 2 family. The fan's model number is BQ PUW2-12025-MS-PWM. It makes use of a unique airflow-optimized nine-bladed design that reduces noise and turbulence. It, as the model number suggests, supports PWM. No LEDs and no fancy colored rings, this is just a solid black 120 mm fan.
