Introduction

Cambridge Audio Logo

"Cambridge Audio want to save the world from shit sound." What better way to say the brand is British than with this self-proclaimed motto? See, here I was thinking it's time to represent my new UK home with one of the more famous British audio brands only to realize that Cambridge Audio had already been introduced to TechPowerUp over seven years ago with a portable DAC/amp review. Cambridge Audio is certainly popular for its Hi-Fi audio products including amplifiers and streamers, but has recently gotten into the true wireless earphone game that has been making money for several companies over the past few years. We take a look at one of the brand's new options for the same, and thanks again to Cambridge Audio for providing a review sample to TechPowerUp!

A lot has changed since that 2014 review of the Cambridge Audio DacMagic, especially since it was made at a time where onboard sound from motherboards was terrible on average. Today, a lot of motherboards boast of very good sound output, and it is the portable space that has been found lacking with the removal of the 3.5 mm jack on most phones. Those portable DAC/amps have come back strong, and we have already seen many such implementations recently. The other side of this coin comes with the increased popularity of wireless audio solutions, with true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones being released a dime a dozen today. We aim to find out what this proudly British company with decades of pedigree in sound-tuning can bring to the market with our review of the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ that begins with a look at the product specifications in the table below.
