Computex 2007: DFI Review

When it comes to motherboards for overclockers, DFI is one of the top brands on the market. Their boards are constantly used to get record scores in 3DMark and other benchmarks. So it does not surprise to see DFI offer a large number of enthusiast motherboards loaded with features.

The new highest end motherboard from DFI is the X38-T3R which comes with the yet to be released Intel X38 chipset. It features massive overclocking capability and digital 8-phase PWM. If you look near the ATX slot cover area (where the Ethernet and USB ports are) you will see a big gap. This empty space will be used by a revolutionary cooling solution that has yet to be revealed. I could take a look but promised not to post additional details about it, but rest assured, it is something that will most probably give DFI a lead over other manufacturers.
  • Socket LGA775, ATX
  • Supports Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors
  • Intel X38 + ICH9R
  • FSB 1333 / 1066 MHz
  • Built-in 8 phase digital PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR3 1333 / 1066, 4x DDR3 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 3x PCI-E x16, 1x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio on external DFI Bernstein card
  • 12x USB 2.0
  • 8x SATA-II right-angled
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Teaming Technology

The DDR2 counterpart using the X38 chipset is the X38-T2. This will probably be selling better than the DDR3 version because most people just bought high-end DDR2.
  • Socket LGA775, ATX
  • Supports Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors
  • Intel X38 + ICH9R
  • FSB 1333 / 1066 MHz
  • Built-in 8 phase digital PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR2 1066, 4x DDR2 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 3x PCI-E x16, 1x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio on external DFI Bernstein card
  • 12x USB 2.0
  • 8x SATA-II right-angled
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Teaming Technology

Using the brand-new Intel P35 chipset, the P35-T2R boasts with a lot of overclocking features.
  • Socket LGA775, ATX
  • Supports Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors
  • Intel P35 + ICH9R
  • FSB 1333 / 1066 MHz
  • Built-in 8 phase digital PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR2, 4x DDR2 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 3x PCI-E x16, 1x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio on external DFI Bernstein card
  • 12x USB 2.0
  • 8x SATA-II right-angled
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Teaming Technology

You want to play with DDR3 on P35? No problem, the P35-T3R is identical to the P35-T2R except that it comes with support for DDR3.
  • Socket LGA775, ATX
  • Supports Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors
  • Intel P35 + ICH9R
  • FSB 1333 / 1066 MHz
  • Built-in 8 phase digital PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR3 1333, 4x DDR3 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 3x PCI-E x16, 1x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio on external DFI Bernstein card
  • 12x USB 2.0
  • 8x SATA-II right-angled
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Teaming Technology

The P35-T2L is a lower cost Intel P35 motherboard, which should do just fine if you are not looking for extreme overclocks.
  • Socket LGA775
  • Supports Intel Core 2 Quad/Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4/Celeron D processors
  • Intel P35 + ICH9
  • FSB 1333 / 1066 MHz
  • Built-in 4 phase digital PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR2, 4x DDR2 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 1x PCI-E x16, 2x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio
  • 12x USB 2.0
  • 6x SATA-II ports
  • Gigabit Ethernet

Like all other big motherboard manufacturers, DFI is preparing for AMD's RD790 chipset launch. In addition to digital PWM for the CPU VCore, the chipset is also connected to the digital PWM for cleaner power supply.
  • Socket AM2, ATX
  • Supports AMD Athlon64, FX, Sempron and X2 CPUs
  • AMD RD790 + SB600
  • Built-in 6 phase digital PWM + 1 phase digital NB PWM
  • Supports Dual Channel DDR2, 4x DDR2 slots, up to 8 GB of memory
  • 3x PCI-E x16, 1x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI
  • 8 Channel HD Audio on external DFI Bernstein card
  • 10x USB 2.0
  • 8x SATA-II, four right-angled
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet with Teaming Technology
