Cougar Armor S Gaming Chair Review

User Experience

The Armor S looks nice and feels comfortable. The colors, orange and black, along with the sports bucket seat aesthetic, easily put this chair into the gaming category. While PVC is not as commonly used as PU pleather, its texture tries to imitate real leather in this particular case, and combined with the diamond stitching pattern, the Armor S does look attractive. Whether the PVC upholstery will last is something that remains to be seen. However, the Armor we reviewed a while ago and used for at least six hours a day since also has a PVC upholstery, and the upholstery is still fully intact. Cougar also calls the PVC pleather for this gaming chair "breathable". However, a slight sense of heat will ensue if skin directly touches the PVC cover (e.g. if you wear shorts or a skirt) since there are no perforations anywhere in the upholstery.

The armrests are a good distance from one another, 4D, easily adjusted in all available directions, and padded, but not as soft as one might expect. They are wide and long enough, so much so that everyone who used the Armor S was happy with its armrests. The seat's base is spacious and has lots of cushioning, and its raised flaps on each side were no source of discomfort even though we expected some users to complain.

The backrest is sturdy, yet cozy. This is actually one of the few times we removed the lumbar support cushion and kept only the neck support pillow. It felt better to have our back up against the backrest. As mentioned, the two cushions have different fillings. We were able to verify this since both cushions come with a zipper. Personally, I like how the neck cushion feels more than the lumbar support cushion.

All height adjustments are smooth. However, the lever for height adjustments is in an awkward position. Almost under the seat's base and towards the rear of the chair, it is difficult to get to. Because I am small, I usually find it hard to make use of the lever for recline adjustment. With the Armor S, I had no such problems, though! The cherry on top are the caster wheels which roll on demand and are really steady, probably because of the traction the wheels have.

Since we have quite a few chairs, we are inevitably very picky. Some of our colleagues prefer chairs entirely made out of mesh, while others like hard cushioning, and others, like myself, prefer chairs that are softer. The Armor S has soft cushioning for its seat and hard cushioning for its backrest, which could make it a good choice for those unsure about what they may prefer more! Since this chair uses a solid steel frame and comes with a metal five-star base, it could probably support more than the stated 120 kg, which may make it an option for bigger users.
