Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300 2GB Kit Review

A closer look

As you can see, Crucial has started using new heat spreaders! They have basically decided to use smaller clips, and keep the heat spreaders flat. This means that there is more space for the Ballistix logo, and it also serves to keep cost down. They are still the same 'Crucial yellow,' but the images may look different because I didn't have the opportunity to take the pictures during daylight hours.

The heatspreaders aren't only held together with the clips anymore. At the top, the two halves are clipped together. Crucial also use a very strong thermal adhesive tape to ensure good heat transfer from the chips.

Unlike most other memory manufacturers, Crucial do not put the memory specification on the heat spreaders, instead they have used labels with the part numbers on them for internal use when the memory is being picked.
