Introduction
I would like to thank ASUS for providing the CPU, motherboard, and graphics card used in this review. This review would not have been possible without their support. Also, many thanks to Crucial for providing the memory.
Crucial is a brand that is most definitely familiar to most if not all of us. Having been around for so many years, Crucial has made an undeniable mark on the industry with the products they provide, most of which are based off products created by Crucial's parent company, Micron. I have been using a Crucial M4 128 GB SSD as a storage drive that holds all the benchmarks and programs I run during testing for quite some time in my memory test systems, so I quickly jumped into action when I got the opportunity to review some of their memory. Crucial's reps asked me directly what products I would like to review, and I gave them a list with a few items you have already seen, and I will be covering more soon as well. Today, I have an option for those looking for something a bit different than what most other sticks offer, geared at HTPC users and those building in space-confined cases.
A low-profile, low-voltage memory option, the Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP sticks run at just 1.35 V while maintaining speeds of 1600 MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings. With many 1600 MHz sticks offering 11-11-11-28 timings at 1600 MHz and requiring 1.5 V, the Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP 16 GB kit offers lower latency and less power consumption, but does it also offer the performance to match? Let's take a look.
