A Closer Look

The Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP sticks are really short in stature, nearly half the height of normal-sized DIMMs.


Both sides of the stick are nearly identical, barring a couple labels on one side.


The black heatsink with silver accents is mated to the surface of the memory ICs on each side of the stick, leaving plenty of space for airflow to penetrate the DIMM, which helps in keeping it cool.


Those two labels on one side carry a bit of info: one gives us speed, timings, and voltage, under the model number, while the other seems to be some sort of batch identification, which will change from kit to kit.


I found some seemingly random markings on the edge of the PCBs, but nothing that hinted at anything worth keeping track of.
