A Closer Look - Outside

With its fairly elaborate design elements and well-placed reservoir in front, the Deepcool Gamer Storm Genome makes a great impression right out of its box. Overall, the naming makes sense as the reservoir is shaped in a double helix like a DNA stack.

As there is the liquid-cooling unit with tubing in front, you will not find any 5.25" drive bays, which should not be a great loss for most these days as Steam and its cohorts have long become the norm for most gamers. In the rear, the Genome looks quite normal at first glance, with the PSU bay at the bottom of the chassis.

The main side of the chassis comes with a large, clean window for you to show off the liquid-cooling solution and all your hardware within, and the back panel is simple and solid.

Taking a closer look at the front, there is a clean divide down the centre with the Gamer Storm logo in the top-left corner. Deepcool placed their double helix, glass reservoir into the lower two-thirds of the chassis. In our sample, there are two LED strips, one to left and another to right, that will light it up.

In the rear is a 120 mm fan to push hot air out the back, alongside multiple openings should you want to route anything through the back. Below it are the seven standard expansion slots for the motherboard, but Deepcool added two vertical ones as well and provides a ribbon PCIe cable for your GPU to optionally be installed front and centre so that everyone can see it through the window. Unfortunately, the cable was missing with our sample, so we cannot show you this cool feature.

In terms of I/O, the Genome keeps it basic with nothing but two USB 3.0 and the usual audio plugs. You will also find the power and reset buttons here - which are both of pretty equal size. Given their roughly equal size, you may end up resetting your system instead of powering it down or putting it into standby mode via the power button. The reset button would ideally be smaller and further away from the power button. Lastly, there is a small button on the side that turns the LED lighting elements inside the chassis on or off.

Large vents in the plastic top cover allow for airflow to be pushed through the 360 radiator and out the top. You may remove it to reveal the pre-installed Gamer Storm Captain 360 mm radiator. Unfortunately, Deepcool secures the metal-mesh dust filter with simple plastic knobs and some glue, two of which were tumbling around the packaging right out of the box. Fortunately, you can easily reapply them with some glue of your own.
