A Closer Look

The Deepcool Gamer Storm Maelstrom 240 is a closed-loop system. Users won't be able to expand upon it without serious modifications. The tubing is corrugated, and while I prefer the softer, smooth hoses, the FEP tubing does have some benefits in that it is crush resistant. At 18 fins per inch / 2.54 cm, the 240 mm radiator's fin density is also pretty high.


Deepcool's chosen pump design features the Gamer Storm logo with a pulsing white LED behind it for some illumination when in use. The tubing's swivel fittings are stiff, but work well. It is also easy to see that the pump uses a similar bracket-mounting system as on Cooler Master's Seidon line of coolers of which I reviewed the 120XL. Granted, in this case, the Deepcool unit's pump is cleaner looking. The coldplate or copper base could use some refinement, but was flat overall and smooth to the touch after I removed the thermal paste, although some milling marks were visible.


Deepcool provided two GF120 fans with the Maelstrom 240. They feature a PWM range of 600-2200 RPM and should be very quiet because of the rubber coating and fluid dynamic bearing (FDB). The fans have small ridges on the blades for focused airflow and their cables are sleeved. The only odd thing is the green sticker on the back as it clashes heavily with the red and black of the fans.
