Doogee S89 Pro Review

A Close Look

The Doogee S89 Pro is a huge phone, both in just general size but also in thickness. It is also quite heavy, but it's a well balanced feel that doesn't seem to favor one end or the other weight-wise. This hints to well-placed internals.

On the top of the S89 Pro is an analog headphone jack, the opening sealed with a rubber cover. the bottom carries the USB Type-C charge port, also sealed with rubber.

On either side of the phone are metal insets, each of which carries some buttons. We find a single button on the left side whose function is unassigned by default, while the right side we find a volume rocker and the power button. The power button integrates a fingerprint reader for quick unlocking.

The rear of the phone gives it an obvious super-hero aesthetic, that uses part of the camera in the general design, although the approach is a bit vague. Part of that styling is via a removable cover on the back, aiding in protecting the S89 Pro.

There are RGB "eyes" on the back that illuminate under different conditions, which you can change within the software on the phone. This is an interesting take on camera design and the use of RGB, and we mustn't forget that the third sensor on this phone is a 20 MP night-vision lens. The design hides the flash and IR LEDs very well, while adding a fun and playful look to the phone that isn't so serious like some other phones. Whether there are some copyright issues with the design remains a question.
