Doogee S89 Pro Review

Battery Life, Charging, Heat

Battery life is one of the ways that the Doogee S89 Pro really stands out from the competition. With a battery than claims to carry 12000 mAh charging capacity, the S89 Pro truly has its own power brick built in. It is so large you can use it to charge other devices if needed, too. The 12 nm CPU and GPU aren't the cutting edge in process technology, yet still the Doogee S89 Pro features days and days of standby power and hours upon hours of heavy usage, even when gaming. There is so much capacity here that it isn't even worth measuring for comparison, although how long it takes to charge the S89 Pro is still a potential concern.

The provided 65 W GaN adapter doesn't work on my local power grid. This prevented direct testing of charge time with the included adapter, but I was able to use one of my personal 65 W GaN chargers to see what happened. I was pleased to see fairly decent charging time from 10% back to full, although it did come close to 2 hours for a full charge. I'm not too happy with not being able to test the included adapter, yet even so, that's a respectable result to see with the third-party charging device that nominally has the same wattage.

Camera Performance

The Doogee S89 Pro features a 64 MP main camera lens. It is complimented by a 8 MP wide lens that also does double duty as a macro lens, and a 20 MP night-vision lens. Not every phone does well in low light, while the Doogee does pretty well in complete darkness, albeit with a gray-scale image.

I was not very impressed with the number of features and adjustments here. There is a a very lightweight "Pro" section, and it is worth noting that screenshots that are saved on the Doogee S89 Pro are saved as .png files instead of .jpg.

The night-vision part of the phone worked better than I had expected. You can use this lens in low light or even in the complete dark, as there are a couple of illuminating IR LEDs built into the rear design.
