Endgame Gear XM1 White Review

Value & Conclusion »

Build Quality

Overall build quality is very solid. There is no rattle when shaking the mouse. When applying lateral pressure, no creaking of the shell can be observed. Lastly, when using the latest firmware (1.88), no accidental clicks can be observed upon slamming the mouse down.

Buttons

Main buttons on the XM1 White are very good. Pre-travel is very low and post-travel low, which results in a firm and satisfying click feel. Furthermore, there is virtually no button wiggle. The right button still emits a somewhat hollow sound upon release, but to a significantly lower degree than my first-batch XM1. Button stiffness is light. Pre-binned Omron D2FC-F-K (50M) switches are used for these.

Side buttons are very good. On the forward button, both pre and post-travel are low. On the back button, pre-travel is moderate while post-travel is low. Compared to my first-batch XM1, the click feel is firmer and less mushy. The pressure point is even across the entire button, although I would prefer the back button not to retract as deeply into the shell when pressed. Button size and placement is quite good as it's possible to actuate these rather easily by rolling one's thumb over them. TTC (red plunger) switches are used for these.

At the bottom of the mouse is a single button for cycling through the set CPI levels.

Scroll Wheel

The scroll wheel is excellent. It's very quiet when scrolling up and down, and the individual steps are well-defined and tactile. Compared to my first-batch XM1, scrolling is slightly stiffer. The encoder is an Alps one. The middle (scroll wheel) click requires a lot of force for actuation. An unbranded square switch is used here.

Coating

The XM1 White has a white UV matte coating all over. It's non-rubberized and therefore most likely not, or at least only to a small degree, prone to stain marks and yellowing over time. During my time using the mouse I could not spot any signs of wear, but that is, of course, hardly conclusive. In terms of surface properties, it's very grippy and easy to clean. The coating of the XM1 White is actually very similar to that of the regular XM1 in black.
