A Closer Look

Compared to many other air coolers on the market, the Enermax ETS-F40-FS has a unique fin-stack design. I wouldn't say it does much in regards to overall performance, but the various cutouts and way the fins are stacked put it a step above more utilitarian designs. The center has a gap for the top plate's ARGB lighting cable, which connects to the fan for a single cable solution. The heatsink is comprised of 45 coated aluminium fins and a smaller heatsink built into the base. In terms of extra features, the ETS-F40-FS uses an offset, or asymmetrical, design that improves memory compatibility.

The heatsink has a deep groove on both sides for the fan clips to securely sit into and keep the fan in place, or fans if you opt for two.

While taking photos of white coolers is a huge pain, I can say the top plate looks quite nice. The design elements are not outlandish, but still interesting enough to draw one's attention, and when illuminated, it looks quite nice. Meanwhile, the four heatpipes are coated in the same material as the fins. When it comes to the base itself, I was impressed. For an HDT design, it had no serious gaps between the heatpipes and the base, and overall TIM spread was quite good as well, with the base making good contact on both our Intel and AMD test benches.

The fan is a 140 mm spinner that features ARGB lighting and a rather low RPM range of 300–1200. While this does limit the cooler's overall potential, it should be relatively quiet in all situations. However, with such a low maximum RPM, the cooler likely won't do that well in our overclocking tests.
