Introduction
Epic Gear is a brand new PC peripherals company that focuses on developing gaming gear. Today we will be taking a good look at their new hybrid mouse mat dubbed "Hybrid Pad". The pad has a surface that is designed to work with the new Epic Gear dual sensor mouse which uses their in house developed HDST tracking system. The mat should also work just fine for other mice based on either optical or laser sensors.
The mat is available in three sizes, a small that measures in at 292 x 208 x 3 mm (WxHxD), a medium at 350 x 250 x 3 mm and the large at 420 x 300 x 3 mm. The one we got for review was the small version which is large enough for the majority of medium to high sensitivity gamers out there.
The mat uses a hybrid type surface which means that it is less susceptible to wear and tear and gives a smoother glide experience that is more linear than with normal cloth based mats. At only 3 mm depth the mouse mat should be extremely comfortable to use. Because it is so slim it is very easy to roll up and pack when going to LAN-parties. The thin rubber base also means that the mat has fewer issues with lying flat straight out of the box than usual.
