Evoluent Reduced Reach Right Handed Keyboard Review

Disassembly

There are multiple Phillips head screws on the back that need to be removed before prying open and separating the two plastic panel pieces that make up the keyboard's case. Be careful here lest you break some of the tabs as I did. Once done, the bottom panel, made out of ABS plastic, comes off, but as seen above, there are a couple things that hold the switches from the top panel piece. You need to remove the piece of glue tape from the internal USB connector cable, dislodge said connector, and then loosen and remove the ribbon cable from the bottom of the seen PCB.

The switches are mounted to a steel plate that adds some structural rigidity to the keyboard and also acts as a conduit to actuate the keystrokes registered via the small green PCB screwed in place on the top panel. Unfortunately, Evoluent has completely masked off the microcontroller here, so it is impossible to identify without running the risk of damaging it. From the side, we get a decent look at the scissor switches on the keyboard.

Before we move on, be advised that disassembly will void the warranty and that TechPowerUp is not liable for any damages incurred if you decided to go ahead and do so anyway.
