The Fifine AmpliGame AM8 is a very affordable dynamic microphone, offering USB and XLR connectivity, an intuitive touch-sensitive control scheme, a sturdy metal table stand, a zero-latency direct monitoring output, and even an RGB lighting system – for good measure. The integrated dynamic capsule offers a cardioid polar pattern and performs surprisingly well. From a normal sitting distance, with the microphone positioned between the user and their keyboard, the Fifine AM8 manages to sound better than some significantly more expensive USB microphones. It sounds very good from up close, when mounted on a boom arm, too, especially if you're willing to spend some time to find an optimal microphone gain setting and distance from your mouth. If you decide to switch from USB to XLR connectivity, by adding a separate audio interface, the AM8 can perform even better.
The USB connectivity makes it completely plug-and-play, regardless of the platform you're using. It operates with no issues on Windows and macOS computers, as well as PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5, and even mobile devices. The latter isn't mentioned in the official spec sheet, but I tried connecting it to my Android smartphone and iOS tablet, and it worked with no additional setup needed.
While I can't claim that the Fifine AmpliGame AM8 is the best $50 external microphone, simply because I didn't test all of them, I can without a doubt say that you're getting a great deal. This is an excellent starting point for anyone with live-streaming or content-creating ambitions, as well as a great choice if you want a substantial upgrade over your headset's puny microphone.
