Packaging and accessories
The PSU comes in a black box with plenty of information on the back—from the DC power specs to the efficiency and fan curves and the number and lengths of the included modular cables.
Inside the box there are no fancy pouches, just a securely packaged PSU and two bundles of cables secured using Velcro ties. We also get the usual accessories: a user manual, AC cable, mounting screws and a test header for the ATX 24 pin connector to be able to power on the unit without connecting it to a PC.
When it comes to cabling, FSP provides decent connectivity options for a unit of this power rating, albeit with some compromises. A detailed list can be found in the following section.
Cables
Modular Cables |
---|
Cable type | Connectors per cable | Cable length | Cable count |
---|
MB (24/20 pins) | 1 | 600 mm | 1 |
CPU (8/4 pins) | 1 | 700 mm | 2 |
PCIe (8/6 pins) | 2 | 650 mm + 150 mm | 2 |
SATA (x2) + Molex (x2) | 4 | 500 mm + 155 mm + 155 mm + 100 mm | 2 |
SATA | 4 | 500 mm + 155 mm + 155 mm + 155 mm | 1 |
12V-2x6 | 1 (12+4 Pins to 12+4 Pins) | 700 mm | 1 |
The flat ribbon style cables (apart from the sleeved 12V-2x6 cable) overall have enough length and look good. The CPU and GPU cables are thicker at AWG 16, while the lower current carrying cables are AWG 18, which is to be expected.
Where the aforementioned compromise can be seen are the PCIe power cables. FSP includes two distinct cables, but each of those have two connectors to connect to the graphics card. Yes, for an 850 W PSU which is not intended for a multi-GPU setup, the number is plenty and allows the manufacturer to advertise more power connectors on board. However, for something like an RX 7900 XTX you would really want to have both cables connected, and in that situation the additional connectors would just be dangling around. So while it's a very minor thing, dedicated cables would still be preferred.
The included Molex + SATA cables are not very commonly seen included with PSUs, but can be useful for a niche audience.
The cables have no inline capacitors for ripple/noise suppression.
