A Closer Look

The Royal kits follow the award winning Trident Z tri-fin design, which is already distinguished. The new silver finish is absolutely beautiful with the faceted light bar as the proverbial icing on the cake.

The Trident Z design is simple and elegant; the heat spreader is visually split in the center of the stick, with the right side featuring the distinct tri-fin shape and very minimalist branding with a "Trident Z Royal". The back of the stick is identical with the sole addition of the mandatory specification sticker.

The faceted light bar is more reminiscent of ice than crystal to me, and it matches perfectly with the silver finish. Given the premium nature of this kit, it is only fitting that it have premium specs to match. The kit is rated for 4000 MHz at CL17, which is quite respectable performance. The sticker features a silver version of the G.SKILL logo, a small addition that does a lot to lift up the fit and finish of the whole kit.

The branding on the G.SKILL Trident Z Royal is very minimalist, an absolute masterstroke of design by G.SKILL. The simple "Trident Z Royal" in elegant script is the only interruption of the mirrored finish aside from the specification sticker.

The kit is single sided, as you would expect from 8 GB sticks, and the finish really is a mirror. On more than one occasion I found myself with pictures of the top of my light box rather than the stick I was aiming for.

Words really don't do these justice, and despite my best efforts, I'm not sure my photography does either. These are gorgeous and have completely unrivaled fit and finish.

Like branding, the PCB markings are quite minimal. There is a small "10" along one edge and a "TZR5" along another. The implication for the first would likely be a ten layer PCB, while the second is obviously a model designation.

The kit weighs in at just a hair under 65 grams per stick, which is not far off from the standard Trident Z sticks. The heat spreader is a little over 44 mm at the tallest point.
