A Closer Look
The top and bottom are relatively plain. This is especially true for the top, as there are no 3D designs, vents, or other features. Instead, the top is just smooth and clean, which I happen to appreciate since wiping dust off will be easier than with a textured surface. Meanwhile, the bottom only has two screw holes for attaching the system to the VESA mounting plate if you want to secure the system to the back of your monitor. Otherwise, like most mini-PCs of this size, the chassis is held together by a screw at each corner.
In regards to I/O, you will find the power button on the front-right with a headphone/microphone combo jack and USB 3.2 Type-C and USB 3.2 Type-A ports. Turning to the left, you will find an SD card slot, which is always nice, along with a relatively large vented panel for airflow.
The rear I/O consists of an HDMI 2.0 port and a mini DisplayPort for display outs. Furthermore, a USB Type-C port located here can be used for data or display capabilities. Combined, the system can output up to four displays. Also located here is the power jack and a Gigabit Ethernet port for networking if you prefer hardwired over WiFi. There is also a large vent on the back where heat is exhausted via the included heatsink and fan. As for the right side, it has a Kensington lock, which I consider a useful feature in some situations considering the size of the unit. A second vent is also present, which should further improve cooling as it gives access to a larger volume of fresh air.
To keep the system running, GEEKOM paired the Mini IT8 with a Hunt-key 90-watt power brick.
In regards to size, the system is a bit taller than a standard 3.5" HDD but not quite as long. The Mini IT8 measures roughly 117 mm wide, 111 mm deep, and 50.8 mm tall including the feet.
