Anyone looking to buy a proper 4K gaming monitor—a monitor with a refresh rate of 144 Hz or more—is very aware of their steep prices. Gigabyte is on a mission to turn things around. First, they released the excellent M28U, and they're now following it up with the M32U, a monitor with an MSRP of $800 that pushes the screen to 32 inches diagonally and includes many useful features for gaming and everyday usage. In many ways, the Gigabyte M32U is similar to the FI32U released under the Aorus brand. The FI32U has a more aggressive gaming aesthetic, RGB lighting system, ESS Sabre DAC on the headphone output, and noise-canceling technology on its microphone input. While nice, these additions are hardly a must-have; it's safe to assume most users would rather spend $150 less and just get the M32U, a monitor that's in every other regard identical to the FI32U.
The Gigabyte M32U is equipped with a 31.5-inch Innolux SS IPS 4K panel. The 10-bit panel (8 bits + FRC) has a native 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms MPRT response time, and wide 123% sRGB color gamut. It is AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certified (also recognized as G-SYNC compatible by NVIDIA graphics cards) and boasts a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. Other strong suits of the M32U are its built-in KVM switch, pair of HDMI 2.1 video inputs for 4K@120 Hz console gaming (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X), and USB-C port, which operates as a video input, but is also used for power and data transfer, making it extremely practical for laptop connectivity. Let's put the M32U through its paces to find out if it offers enough to be branded a great value 4K gaming monitor.
