Storage Performance

The Gigabyte X570S AERO G has a decent assortment of connectivity that should be sufficient for a workstation. The ones worth noting is the USB-C 20 GB/s port and four 10 Gb/s USB Type-A ports included in the rear IO panel. For those have an external drive or do a lot of data dumping, these ports will be put to go use. Internally, more USB ports are available through additional headers. Internal storage options here is fairly standard for a mid-tier AM4 socket motherboard. This includes six SATA 6 Gb/s ports and four Gen4 M.2 sockets.

AIDA64 (SATA 6 Gb/s)

AIDA64 (USB 3.2)

External USB-C enclosures are only rated for 10 Gb/s, and both ports that have been tested reached the target of 850 MB/s in these benchmarks.

AIDA64 (NVMe M.2)

Using a Gen4 x4 M.2 drive, testing shows that four M.2 sockets are indeed Gen4 x4 with the correct amount of bandwidth allocated to each socket. However, the lower three M.2 sockets have a lower read throughput, as these are interfaced through the PCH (X570S chipset).
