Introduction
HarmonicDyne had a shaky start in our coverage of the audio brand with its
P.D.1 in-ear monitors that uses an interesting combination of planar magnetic and dynamic drivers but was ultimately let down by tuning issues. We then saw the
HarmonicDyne Zeus that oozes premium quality and continued the trend of an excellent unboxing experience with a set of accessories that rivals products far more expensive. The Zeus is an open-back dynamic driver set which does a few things well enough to merit interest from customers. The positive trend continued with the
G200 planar magnetic headphones which were among the very best with some minor EQ and replacement pads to where I still want to encourage people to consider this route if they want one of the most resolving headphones for a reasonable price. Seeing as how my impression of the brand kept improving with each round, I readily agreed to check out the latest from HarmonicDyne sent kindly by
Linsoul as a review sample for TechPowerUp.
While the first three HarmonicDyne dynamic driver headphones went with Greek god names (Helios, Zeus and Poseidon), round three has resulted in the use of Athena—the Greek goddess of wisdom. In another departure, the Athena is not a open-back set of headphones but rather a semi-closed design using an interesting side venting system in the ear cups. The preview image above also suggests there is some common DNA between the Athena and the other HarmonicDyne headphones, which bodes well from a build quality, aesthetics, and comfort point of view too. This is the least expensive HarmonicDyne product we've reviewed to date and there's a lot to see here so let's begin with a look at the product specifications in the table below.
