The HE-400i is hard not to like. It is an incredibly good all-around headphone with the unique bass performance we have come to love planar magnetics for. The HE-400i isn't overly bright, which I find to be a gift for especially longer listening sessions; there is simply no fatigue here. Bass performance is almost on par with the nearly twice as expensive HE-560, and the HE-400i will pretty much out run all other headphones in its price range in terms of detail and depth. The midrange is linear and without any oddities and actually sports better projection than the HE-500 with its stock pads.
The HE-400i is bound to be a major hit since it can be run out of any half-decent headphone amplifier. Its aesthetics are simple and the construction seems durable enough for around-the-house use. Its new headband is incredibly comfortable on this 58 cm sized head, and the cups do not interfere with the ears.
At $499, it is a bargain, no more and no less!
