The PSU
Just like the Type M 780W, that we tested recently, the case is dominated by a mesh design which should help with the airflow. Compared to the black Type M, the Type R Mk-II uses a shiny high gloss chrome paint job.
The back shows the cables coming out, neatly arranged. A modular design would have been nice to see here.
One of the highlights of the Type R Mk-II is the included USB hub. A cable that comes out of the PSU with the other power cables goes into a USB port in your PC and then you can connect up to eight devices into the back of the PSU. Each of these eight ports is powered by the PSU but connected to the motherboard and can supply 500 mA each. The ninth, white, port you see is a USB charger port. While it does not offer USB data connectivity it can be used with devices like your Ipod or Iphone to recharge their battery. It should be noted that it can supply up to 1.0 A, which is double the maximum power of regular USB. Since it is powered by the 5VSB voltage of the PSU it will always be on, even when your PC is turned off.
A single 140 mm fan keeps the unit cool.
The motherboard connector supports only 24 pin connectors. Other manufacturers offer a sort of clip-on system here to remain compatible with both 20 pin and 24 pin motherboards.
Hiper has chosen to include two independent ATX 12V connectors, one 4 pin and one 8 pin, each on its own cable.
