HyperX Pulsefire FPS Pro Review 3

HyperX Pulsefire FPS Pro Review

Software

Once again, I can only repeat what I wrote in the Pulsefire Surge and Pulsefire Core reviews: HyperX's NGenuity software is tedious. It's a bit laggy on startup, very heavyweight, and lacks some basic performance customization options that should be there. I really hope they will revamp it in the near future.

The first main window allows you to switch between profiles, create new ones, and link them to trigger on specific program launches. You can also access the button-mapping options here, with a lot of options to choose from in terms of functionality. Next, the lighting tab contains all the RGB-related settings, more on that under the upcoming section of the review. The performance tab has nothing else, just the CPI steps and their corresponding LED colors which flash for a few seconds if you switch between them. Lastly is the macros page. As its name might suggest, it has all the controls needed to create macros.

The software takes up about 1.15 GB of disk space and roughly consumes 150 MB of memory while running in the background. Since the mouse has on-board memory, you can simply uninstall the software after setting everything up, if you'd like to.

Lighting

While the Pulsefire Surge offered vast lighting controls for the same price, the Pulsefire FPS Pro is more on par with the cheaper Core model in terms of RGB capabilities. There are two lighting zones, but the scroll wheel and rear HyperX logo light up synchronized. I could not find any options to control them individually. As shown in the picture above, four different options are available: standard solid lighting, color cycle, breathing, and trigger effects. The effects look nice, transitions are smooth and don't flicker, and the lighting is bright.

Here's a demonstration video of the lighting (I had to use very dark settings in order to capture the colors as they are so bright it just burns out with normal settings):
