Installation

When installing hard drives into the Lian Li PC-P80R case, each drive needs to have four thumb screws and rubber grommets installed. Each of the rubber grommets slides into a groove in the HDD converter bays. If desired, each drive can be locked in place with an additional screw on each side.

Installing the motherboard is easy, thanks to the removable tray and the stand-off installation tool that Lian Li provides. A full-size ATX board looks mighty small on the huge tray.

The removable power supply bracket makes installing the PSU easy, too. The power supply is attached directly to the bracket, then slid into place and secured with four red thumbscrews.

The cables for the top I/O panel are plenty long enough to reach wherever they may need to go on the motherboard, and having the slot below the motherboard makes it easy to manage the cable clutter. Here the cables are run behind the the motherboard tray.

After everything else has been installed into the system and the cables are run, the expansion card support bracket can be returned to its place. Lian Li designed the bracket to be able to be moved to one of three positions, depending on the cards being used. After the black support pieces are inserted into the appropriate space in the bracket, the entire assembly can be added back into the case and secured with the two small screws. For each card that is supported, one long thumbscrew gets inserted and tightened from the right side of the bracket.

I was a little disappointed that Lian Li did not include the optional cooling fan that they include with so many of their systems, even though there are two places for it to be installed. To make matters worse, if one is purchased later on, it will not be anodized red and therefore will not match the rest of the case's interior. Here the optional BS-03 bracket from another Lian Li case was installed.

Finished Look

Black optical drives compliment the black accents already in the case. If users require a floppy drive of other 3.5" device, a converter bay needs to be purchased separately. With the case closed up, the interior is mostly hidden from view, but when powered on the light from the LED case fans shows through.
