The aspect of performance is always an area which is purely subjective. We try to convey the feel and performance of the device as objectively as possible, letting you - the reader - decide if the attributes are for you or not. This is especially hard with the newest generation of mice, as simple configurations are a thing of the past. The first thing which became common with high-end pointing devices for this purpose was a DPI switch, which lets you choose how sensitive your mouse is to movement. The newest generation, as is the case with the G9, also has a slew of brand new features, which make for an very customizable experience. This makes the mouse more appealing to a greater group of gamers who will find the right setting to fit their playing style.
The difference in weight which is possible can be felt and even if you are used to heavy mice like the MX 1000 or Revolution, you should feel right at home. The only downside, as mentioned before, is the fact that the center of gravity moves toward the rear of the mouse if it is fully loaded with weights. Another aspect is the feel of the pointing device. The two included covers are both very different and, even though I use a MX Revolution for my daily chores, I found the feel of the textured, smaller cover to be more comfortable. This was mainly because I could load the device up with weights and still pick it up easily, due to the friction provided by the rough cover.
The DPI settings are very far apart, so you may want to change them to stay within the parameters you are comfortable with. The highest setting is incredibly sensitive, which you can easily reduce with the help of the SetPoint software. As you can see, every aspect of this mouse, from feel, weight, buttons and senstivity can be adjusted to fit your needs.
It seems that the days where you had a full range of modern gaming mice is gone, at which point you could simply choose the one that fit your needs the best. Today you pay for everything and have to tune the device to suit your gaming style. So you end up paying for features, even if you will not use them.
