Logitech MX518 Review

Performance

After purchasing the mouse, I got home, plugged it in and went to bed (late work shift, early start the next day)... However, the next day my friend came over after work, and we set up a LAN. We played Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter Co-Op, BF2 Co-Op and CS:S for about eight hours, so the mouse got lots of testing done. All I could say about it was - Amazing. I've since played around with it more in games/Photoshop, and it works great.

My old laser mouse (a Logitech) would jump every so often. The MX518 didn't miss a beat. The on-the-go sensitivity adjustment of 400, 800, and 1600 DPI is another great feature. This helps by dropping the sensitivity when doing long ranged sniper shots, and going quickly back for rush shots or when not using a sniper rifle. The only thing with the on-the-go sensitivity is that you must have the SetPoint program running in the background for it to work. However, I could still change my DPI without the SetPoint software installed.

The MX518 uses Logitech's MX Optical technology which uses enahanced viewing angles, and captures more frames, allowing higher performance. All I can say is that it works wonderfully.

I found the mouse is very comfortable as well. On the left side under the two side buttons, there is a grove to fit your thumb. Your thumb sits nicely in it, and makes it easy to get to the side buttons. The MX518 is quite large, and when I picked up my old mouse I realized how big it is. This makes it a lot easier on your hand, and lets you relax your hand more as well.

With the two side buttons left at their fault binds, they act as Forward and Back on web browsers which is quite handy.

One thing I did find with this mouse though, was the Application Button, or the top middle button. I found this very hard to use without taking my finger off the left click button. Serious gamers, who like a lot of buttons on the mouse, will find this one to be a bit of a hindrance. When using it as Application switch only, it's perfectly fine, and you'd have to be pretty picky to complain about it.
